Healing for my son

Thank you for sharing your heart and for allowing us to pray with you for your son. To watch your child suffer and weep and not be able to tell you where it hurts is a deep and heavy pain, and the Lord sees both his tears and yours.

We join with you now in agreement in prayer, asking in the name of Jesus Christ for the Lord's healing touch upon your son. Scripture invites us to pray this way and promises that when we agree together concerning a need, the Lord hears. It also tells us to call for the elders to pray and to anoint the sick with oil in the name of the Lord, and that the prayer offered in faith will help the sick and the Lord will raise them up. If you have faithful elders near you, invite them to come and pray over him in that way.

We believe strongly that God heals. Jesus showed this throughout His ministry, and His followers continued to bring the sick for prayer in the days of the early church. The Bible also connects the suffering of Christ not only to the forgiveness of our sins but to our physical healing, so we come with confidence that God cares about the body as well as the soul. At the same time, the greatest miracle any of us can receive is salvation, the forgiveness of sins and new life in Jesus, and that remains God's greatest work in us.

There is much about healing we do not fully understand. Scripture records one time when Jesus laid His hands on a man and healing came gradually, with sight returning in stages until it was made fully clear. That account reminds us that God does not always work in the same way. Sometimes He heals instantly, sometimes healing comes as a process over time, and sometimes He works through the natural processes of healing He Himself placed within our bodies. Those processes are no less divine because they are natural, for He created both nature and its processes. He also brings healing to the mind and heart, bringing peace where there has been wounding and distress.

We do not always understand why some receive healing quickly and others continue to wait, even when we pray with great earnestness. The apostle Paul prayed three times for his own need and heard the Lord answer, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. That does not mean we stop praying. It means we keep bringing our earnest, heartfelt requests to God, trusting His wisdom and love while we ask. The heartfelt and sincere prayer that rises out of desperation and deep need has great power and accomplishes much, and God hears it.

Your son may not be able to describe his pain, but the Lord knows exactly what is wrong and where it hurts. He understands what we cannot see or explain, and He is full of compassion toward those who are weak and vulnerable.

So we pray now for your precious son, that the Lord would touch his body, ease his pain, reveal what is causing his distress, and bring healing according to His perfect will, whether instantly or through a gradual process. We pray also for comfort and peace to rest upon him, and for strength, wisdom and hope for you as you care for him day by day. May the Lord draw near to you both, guard your hearts, and remind you of His faithful love in Jesus Christ.

We will continue to hold you both before the Lord in prayer.
