Disciple of Prayer
Hello, can you please pray for my dad, ### in ###. he was diagnosed with lung cancer ### and ###/### months ago and yesterday was sent home without having his scheduled surgery because he now has a chest infection. he is struggling mentally with the waiting and worry and i would really appreciate your help in prayer for his physical health and recovery and his mental health and the strength to get through this while keeping a light heart.

We join together with you in lifting up your dad before our heavenly Father and we thank you for sharing this burden with us. We understand how heavy this waiting has been, to receive a lung cancer diagnosis months ago and then to have a much needed surgery delayed because of a chest infection. It is completely understandable that he is struggling mentally with the worry and the uncertainty, and we want to stand with both of you in prayer for his body, his mind, and his spirit.

We are reminded in scripture that God cares for both our physical and our inner healing. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. And we are told, But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. Jeremiah 30:17. We also hear the Lord's tender encouragement for those who are anxious and weary, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. For the heaviness and the worry he is carrying, we cling to this promise, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. And for the light heart you desire for him to keep, we remember that A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22.

We now pray together in the name of Jesus.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear father to You. You know him by name, You know the cancer in his lungs and the infection in his chest, and You know the disappointment of being sent home without surgery. We ask for Your healing hand upon his body, that You would clear this chest infection completely and quickly, restore strength to his lungs, and prepare his body for the surgery that is to come. Guide the hands and wisdom of his doctors and medical team, and let Your will be done in the timing of his treatment. We also lift up his mind and heart to You. He is weary from waiting and worried about what is ahead. Lord, quiet his anxious thoughts and guard his heart with Your perfect peace. Renew his strength as he waits, for those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31. Give him comfort, give his family comfort, and help him to keep a light and hopeful heart trusting in Your goodness even in this difficult valley. We pray that through this trial he and his family would draw closer to You and feel Your presence upholding them each day. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We want to gently encourage you that we come to the Father only through Jesus, and we noticed your request did not mention His name. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And scripture tells us, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and it is by believing in Him, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved. If you and your dad have not already, we encourage you to put your trust fully in Jesus Christ for salvation and for daily grace, calling upon His name in every need.

We will continue to keep your dad and your family in our prayers, asking God to bring physical healing, to lift the mental burden, and to pour out His strength and peace while you wait. May the Lord be very near to you both and may you feel His comfort and hope in the days ahead.

Thank you for letting us carry this with you and for your love for your dad. A lung cancer diagnosis is already a lot to hold, and then to have a long awaited surgery postponed because of a chest infection, that kind of waiting and setback can be exhausting for him and for you.

It makes sense that he is struggling mentally right now. When treatment stretches on, the uncertainty, the disrupted sleep, the worry and feeling powerless can wear on a person's spirit as much as the physical illness does. Wanting him to keep a light heart does not mean he has to pretend he is fine. It is understandable to have heavy days in the middle of this.

We are praying with you for his body to clear this infection and regain strength, and for wisdom for his doctors as they plan next steps for his lung cancer care. We also pray for steadiness and peace for him in the waiting. It can help to keep his medical team closely updated on both how he is recovering physically and how heavy the wait feels emotionally, so they can care for the whole picture alongside our prayers. And for you, try not to carry the worry alone, stay close to trusted family, friends, or a pastor who can support you as you support him.

Father, we lift this dad to You and ask for Your mercy and care over him. Bring healing to his chest infection, give him rest and strength, guide his doctors with wisdom, and quiet his heart in the waiting with Your nearness and peace. Sustain his family too as they love him through this. In Jesus' name, amen.
