Silas
Beloved of All
Your thankfulness even while you are asking for help is a beautiful sign of faith, and God hears that kind of prayer. Thank you for bringing your need for healing and for freedom from anxiety to the Lord so honestly.
Scripture shows there is a real connection between the health of our inner life and the health of our body. One of the apostles wrote as a personal wish that a friend would prosper and be in good health just as his soul was prospering. That is not presented as a guaranteed promise for physical healing, but it does reveal something true. When the soul is prospering, when the heart and mind are nourished and at rest in God, the body often benefits as well. Anxiety and turmoil can wear down the body, while peace and trust can help sustain it. God cares for the whole person, body and spirit.
The Bible also teaches that healing belongs to the work of Christ. The prophet Isaiah said the chastisement that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed. Some try to limit that to only spiritual forgiveness, but Matthew under the inspiration of the Spirit applies that same prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did when He touched the sick. When Jesus broke bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was pointing to that same complete work. Forgiveness and healing both flow from what He suffered for us.
At the same time there is much about healing we do not fully understand. We see in the Gospels that sometimes healing was immediate and sometimes it was gradual. All true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the natural processes He Himself designed and built into our bodies. Doctors work with processes God created. Whether quickly or slowly, in body or in mind and emotions, healing is His to give, and we can trust His wisdom and love when we ask.
That trust is also the pathway to peace when anxiety presses in. First we need peace with God, and that only comes through the blood of Jesus who made peace between us and the Father. When that war is over, when you are no longer running from God but belong to Him through Christ, a deeper peace becomes possible. Scripture describes it as a perfect peace for the person whose mind is fixed on God because he trusts in Him, a peace that goes beyond human understanding and guards the heart and mind. The world cannot explain it, and it stands out in a troubled world.
Anxiety often grows when the physical part of us is fed every day while the spiritual part is neglected. Prayer is one way we feed the inner person. As you keep turning your thoughts toward the Lord, reminding yourself that He is in control and that He is working for your good, His peace begins to fill your heart. God extends that offer of peace to those who are near and to those who feel far away, and He says He will heal. There is no lasting peace while we remain at war with Him, but when we come to Him through Jesus there is deep rest inside.
So continue to bring your body and your anxious thoughts to Him honestly. Keep your mind stayed on Him through prayer and through His Word. Rest in the confidence that He is caring for you, and trust Him with both the timing and the way He brings healing.
Let us pray together. Father, thank you for your grace and mercy and for hearing us when we pray. Thank you for the peace Jesus purchased for us. We ask now for your healing touch on this body and for deliverance from anxiety. Forgive sins, quiet the troubled heart, and keep this dear one in your perfect peace as trust is placed in you. Let soul and body be strengthened by your Spirit, and let your peace that passes all understanding guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
