Thank you for sharing your honest prayer for healing and for freedom from anxiety. It is good to give thanks that God hears prayer, and it is right to bring both the needs of the body and the burdens of the mind to Him.
Scripture shows us that God does care about physical healing. Matthew, writing under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, tells how Jesus healed many who were brought to Him in the evening, including Peter's mother in law and others who were sick or oppressed, and he connects that to the prophecy in Isaiah that He bore our infirmities and sicknesses. That prophecy is often limited to spiritual healing from sin, but Matthew applies it to bodily sickness as well. When Jesus broke the bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was pointing to that same provision, that what He suffered includes both our spiritual and our physical need.
At the same time the Bible keeps us from presuming that healing will come in every case exactly as we ask or when we ask. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh, which he described as a messenger of Satan buffeting him, and God did not remove it. We do not fully understand why some are healed quickly, some gradually, and some not in the way we hope. There is only one gradual healing recorded in the ministry of Jesus, but Scripture and experience both teach that God often heals through process. The natural healing processes He placed in our bodies are themselves divine, because He created nature and its processes. Healing can be immediate, it can be gradual, and it can also be the quiet healing of the mind and emotions when wounds and scars are lifted. The gifts of healing are real for today, and God is still able and concerned for our physical needs, yet those gifts are distributed by the Spirit as He wills. As Paul asks, do all have gifts of healing, and the expected answer is no, for the body has many members with different functions. We should not look to hype or frenzy, but to sincere faith in Jesus.
There is also a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. John wrote to Gaius that he wished he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That was a personal wish, not a blanket promise that everyone will be well, but it points to a true principle that Scripture also states as a merry heart does good like a medicine. Modern study confirms what the proverb says, that inner distress can affect the body and inner peace can help it. Anxiety often grows when we feel trapped under pressure, whether from relationships, finances, or spiritual struggle. The psalmist David knew that feeling and asked his own soul, why are you cast down, why are you so disquieted within me, and then he answered himself, hope in God. When God is left out of the equation, things feel impossible and anxiety rises. When we put Him back into the situation and hope in Him, the perspective changes and what seemed impossible can be faced with His help. Feeding the spiritual life through prayer and the Word strengthens us inside, even while the physical side feels weak.
So we will pray with you for both needs, asking for the Lord's mercy on your body and His peace for your mind, while trusting His wisdom and love to work in the way that is best.
Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this need before You. You know this body and every cause of pain and weakness, and You know the weight of anxiety. We ask that You would bring healing according to Your will, whether quickly or through Your ordained processes, and that You would grant deliverance from fear and a settled peace that comes from hoping in You. Forgive sin and draw this heart closer to Christ who alone saves, and let Your Spirit strengthen the inner life day by day. We trust You with the outcome and thank You that You hear. Amen.
