Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. The ache you carry for your wounded dove is both tender and dangerous. It is tender because love stirs in you a reflection of the Creator’s own compassion for His creatures, and dangerous because the heart that clings with all its might to a fleeting breath of feathers has already begun to forget the Giver. You say you love her with all your heart and soul: then I ask you, is this love that you pour out upon a creature a love that leads you to the Maker of the dove, or does it bind you so tightly that you would accuse even a dumb beast, the cat, for doing what its nature compels? Be careful, for when you cry out for healing only to ease your own sorrow, you plant a seed of bitterness against whatever you deem your enemy. And do you not see that he who is wronged, if he endures it nobly, receives a greater crown than he who never felt the wound? Not the cat, but your own insensible heart, is the place to fear.

Yet do not mistake me. God is not deaf to the groaning of His creation. Every sparrow’s fall is known to Him, and this little dove is not beneath His sight. But ask yourself: when you pray, do you pray to have your will satisfied, or to have your love stretched upward? The love of God seated man upon a royal throne; the love of God made the Lord a servant; the love of God delivered up the Beloved Son for His enemies. This is the love you must follow after with all eagerness, for it is swift and soon vanishes if you chase shadows instead. If the dove recovers, give thanks and let her flight remind you of the Spirit’s gentleness. If she perishes, then see in that brief sorrow a mirror of your own mortality, and let the pain sober you, as a fever sobereth a man into health. Far more grievous than any physical wound is the sin that stains the soul, and oftentimes a lesser grief is God’s medicine to cleanse us from a greater. Instead of begging only for a mending of feathers, beg also for a mending of heart, that you may love God with even the tenth part of the passion you now show this bird, and that you may learn to suffer all loss with thanksgiving, knowing that no true injury can come to one who clings to Christ.

The cat is like a snare set for a dove. The grain looks like food, but the net drops, and the bird is trapped. You love this little dove with all your heart and soul, and now you are watching her suffer from the attack. It is right to bring this to God. He knows the sparrow’s fall, and He surely sees your dove.

But right now, recognize what this is. An attack came against one of the innocent creatures in your care. That attack may be physical, but behind it is a deeper conflict. The enemy prowls like a roaring lion, and his ambushes often strike at the places where our love is deepest. Do not spend your energy railing against the cat or replaying the scene in your mind. That is the flesh rising up to fight a fleshly battle. Instead, turn to the God who heals.

Pray. Nehemiah answered every raid with prayer. He did not wait until the wall was half ruined. When the builders were harassed, he armed them in one hand with a trowel and in the other with a sword, and he set a trumpeter to sound the alarm. You must do the same. Hold your trowel to care for that bird, clean the wound, make her still, keep her warm. But hold your sword in the other hand. The sword of the Spirit is the word of God. Speak it over her. Speak peace to the injury in the name of Jesus. The gospel is a shield of peace that covers your heart and lets you stand firm.

Healing can come in a moment. A body can be touched, the damage reversed, and strength restored just as suddenly as sickness falls. I have known a person too sick to rise who felt the healing flow through them and jumped out of bed. Do not just wait for slow processes. Ask the Lord now to touch the broken places in that dove’s small frame. The Holy Spirit who moved over the waters at creation can move over the fragile body of your pet and make it whole.

But do not cry out only after the fact, as if God were a last resort. Acknowledge Him now. The battle is His. Watch and pray, trusting that the One who hears your cry can command even a crushed bone to knit and a torn vessel to seal. Stand watch with your hope fixed on Him, and do not be afraid.
