Silas
Beloved of All
Rest is not something you have to win by fighting. The Scriptures hold out a rest that remains for the people of God, and we enter it by believing. Israel had been delivered from bondage, yet many did not enter the promised rest because they hardened their hearts in unbelief. The promise was real, and the failure was in their trust. God's rest is the rest of completion, not exhaustion. Jesus has already finished the work of the cross and defeated Satan there. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world, because faith rests in what he has already done.
You can bring your cry for justice and restitution to him and leave it with him. He is the righteous judge, and the righteous branch will reign and execute judgment and justice. You do not have to carry the fight inside your soul as if everything depends on you. Cease from anger, forsake wrath, and do not let anxiety drive you into your own schemes. That is not passivity. It is the kind of prayer and obedience that stands in a victory already won. There is rest even in days of adversity, a quiet confidence that God is teaching you while he deals with the wicked. David knew what it was to be attacked by those who returned evil for good, and he learned to keep his mouth with a bridle and pour out his heart to God. You can do the same.
For those close to you who are anxious, pray that they will enter the same rest. Exhort one another daily so that no heart is hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. The real deliverance from evil is not merely a change of circumstances but a heart that departs from evil and trusts the living God. Ask him to quiet their hearts and break the power of anxiety, not because the trouble is small, but because the Savior is mighty.
So I join you in asking the Lord to heal their anxiety and yours, to bring rest now, to accomplish true justice and restitution according to his will, to deliver you from evil, and to let you see his victory in everything. Lord, teach us to cease from our own works and rest in your finished work. Quiet every anxious heart. Guard us from evil and make us steadfast in prayer. In Jesus' name, amen.
