Hate

We join with you in this burden and we agree together for a breakthrough against the hate that has crept into the churches, and we bring this before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.

The Lord has called His church to be marked by love and unity, not by hatred and division, and hate among believers grieves His heart and harms our witness to the world. Scripture is very clear that hatred has no place among God's people. Jesus gave us a new commandment when He said in John 13:34, A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. And again in 1 John 4:20 we are warned, If a man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen. We must rebuke the spirit of hate, bitterness, gossip, and strife wherever it has taken root in the body of Christ, for it is not from God but from the enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy.

God desires His people to dwell together in unity, for Psalm 133:1 tells us, See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity. And we are urged in Ephesians 4:3 to be eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. This does not mean we overlook truth or sin, but we are to speak the truth in love and to forgive as Christ forgave us, even loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:44.

So we pray together now for this breakthrough. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we ask You to pour out Your Holy Spirit upon every church and every congregation. We ask You to break the chains of hate, pride, jealousy, and division and to replace them with Your love, humility, and forgiveness. Heal the wounds that have caused offense and soften hardened hearts. Help pastors and leaders to shepherd with grace and truth, and help every believer to walk in love and to bear with one another in love. Let Your love be perfected in us so that the world will know we are Your disciples by our love for one another. We ask for repentance where there has been hatred and for reconciliation where there has been separation, that Your church may be one as You and the Son are one, and that Your name may be glorified. We thank You that You hear us when we pray in Jesus' name and we trust You for a mighty move of healing and unity. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap and to be an example of that love, to pray fervently, to forgive quickly, and to speak words of peace and encouragement. God is able to bring breakthrough and revival when His people humble themselves and pray and seek His face.

We were moved by your prayer for breakthrough over the hate you are seeing among churches. It is painful to watch division where there should be love, and we join you in asking God to bring healing.

We hear how much you want Christ's name to be honored, not misused, and that burden is a good and loving one to carry. Hate hardens hearts and pushes people away from the very community God intends to be a place of care and welcome. When relationships break, we can be tempted to look away or just live without each other, but true restoration takes an honest commitment to rebuild trust and love together.

One small way we can be part of the answer is to live that commitment where God has placed us. Continuing to pray as you are, and also choosing in our own congregations to model patience, to listen well when tensions rise, and to gently encourage conversation rather than taking sides, can open doors for God to work. If there is a pastor or trusted leader you know, sharing your concern with them in a calm, prayerful way may also help.

Father, we bring the hurt and division in your churches before you. Soften hearts where there is hardness, heal where there is wounding, and help your people reflect your love more clearly. Give us wisdom to be peacemakers in our own places. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Your prayer touches a wound that has long bled in the body of Christ, and it is right to bring it before the throne of grace. The sharpest trials the church has ever known have often come not from without but from within, from her own sons and daughters, and when bitterness and strife are found among those who name the name of Jesus, her garments are rent and her witness is marred before the world.

Scripture teaches us there is a righteous hatred, for it is written, ye that love the Lord, hate evil. To hate sin, to hate falsehood and pride and every way that departs from God, is a power of manhood to be exercised in the fear of God. But there is also a hatred without cause, such as was poured upon our Lord Himself who was altogether lovely and yet was hated continually, though He came to quench the flames of hell for sinners. When such causeless hatred takes root among brethren, it is not of the Spirit of Christ.

Our Lord prayed that His people might be one, as He and the Father are one, that the world may believe that the Father sent Him. And we are exhorted to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. That unity is not made by mere organization or by cutting off all who do not conform to our own mind, but it is wrought as we are each sanctified and made more like Christ, polished as living stones for His building, and as we love the truth and love one another.

So we join you in prayer for a breakthrough, that God would break through hard hearts and heal divisions:

Our Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, we ask Thee to look upon Thy churches. Forgive us where we have harbored envy, pride, and hatred without cause. Teach us to hate what Thou hatest and to love what Thou lovest. Pour out Thy Spirit to sanctify Thy people, to make us holy and therefore truly one. Where there is wounding and bleeding, bring healing. Where there is coldness and division, kindle love. Grant to pastors and people repentance, humility, and a mind to overcome evil with good, that Thy glory may be seen and the world may believe that Thou hast sent Christ. Break through, O Lord, with power, and let brotherly love continue, to the praise of Thy grace. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer for a breakthrough from hate among the churches is heard and we join you in bringing it before the Lord.

We pray that the God of peace would bruise Satan under our feet and heal the divisions that have brought so much sorrow. Scripture warns us that nothing so provokes God's anger and so wounds His body as when love grows cold and we are divided against one another. The name of Church itself is a name of harmony and concord, and when we cut ourselves off from one another through contentiousness and love of power we cut ourselves off from the fullness of Christ.

We ask the Lord to rekindle love where it has grown cold, and to turn hatred into love. Christ commands us to love our enemies and to pray for those who despitefully use us, to bless those who curse us and do good to those who hate us, so that we may become like our Father in heaven who makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good. Where there are those who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine we have learned, we pray for discernment to avoid what is false and to cling to what is true, and for grace not to answer hate with hate.

We pray also for wisdom, for not every separation is evil and not every agreement is good. We ask God to give His people unity in truth, not a false peace that compromises His word, but a true oneness built on faith in Jesus Christ alone and obedience to His teaching.

May the Lord grant to all His churches repentance where we have sinned, humility where we have been proud, and a renewed love for one another that the world may see Christ in us. May He make us one as He desires us to be one, interwoven with Him and with each other, that His name would not be disgraced before our enemies but glorified among us.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace. Amen.
