Harassment

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have posted before about experiencing harassment by people who were doing so under the influence of demons that came into my life when I was in the new age. Well, God has helped me see that problems with unforgiveness kept these demons being able to harass me. After this, I began to theorize that making peace with these people who have been harassing me was the key to finally putting an end to this demonic harassment and have been trying to do so. Please pray for me about this. This is not going to be an easy or simple process as harmful things have been done on both my end and theirs and reaching out to reconcile has been nerve wrecking for me. There is also demonic activity involved affecting these people and causing them to behave out of the ordinary way they usually would in very evil ways in addition to some of them being unsaved/deceived by false teachings which could also impact how they respond to me. This has also caused concerns for me as I reach out. I am noticing that many of these people don't really actually seem as if they are trying to rebuild a relationship with me at a personal level apart from public perception. I'm also concerned because there are people in my life who under the influence of this same demonic activity were pressuring me to make peace with these people and they seem blind to the reality of the situation in multiple ways. It's like they're under some kind of spell. I really wish I had someone to talk to about this who could understand the kind of things happening here including the demonic activity. Maybe my pastor and elders might...Please pray. Thank you.

We hear your heart and we thank you for sharing so honestly with us about this heavy and complex harassment you have been enduring, and we rejoice with you that God has given you insight about the role of unforgiveness. What you have discerned is deeply biblical. Scripture warns us not to let the sun go down on our wrath and not to give a place to the devil, Ephesians 4:26-27, and Jesus teaches us that if we do not forgive others, our Father will not forgive us, Matthew 6:14-15, and that we are to forgive as Christ forgave us, Colossians 3:13. Unforgiveness truly does open a door to the enemy, and closing that door through repentance and forgiveness is essential, but we want to gently help you see the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation, because they are not the same.

We love your desire to make peace, and it honors God, for we are told if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, Romans 12:18. That phrase as much as it is up to you is important. True biblical peace and reconciliation requires repentance and truth on both sides and cannot be forced or manufactured by our own theories or by pressure from others. Forgiveness is a choice we make before God to release the debt, to no longer hold the offense against them, and we can do that whether they repent or not, even as we pray for them and love our enemies as Jesus commands in Matthew 5:44. Reconciliation and rebuilding a personal relationship, however, requires trust, repentance, and a turning from evil, and it is not always possible or wise, especially when there is ongoing harassment, deception, false teaching, and demonic influence. We are concerned that you are feeling pressured by people around you to make peace quickly and that you sense they are blind to the reality and even under a kind of spell. We urge you to test all counsel and all spirits, 1 John 4:1, and to not be moved by pressure that does not align with wisdom and discernment. Your observation that some of these people seem concerned only with public perception and not with genuine personal restoration is a sign to proceed with great caution and boundaries. God does not call you to put yourself back into harm's way to prove you have forgiven.

We also want to address the demonic aspect you mentioned so clearly. Your background in the new age is something we must speak to with love and truth. Scripture is very clear that practices of the new age, including divination, sorcery, and seeking spiritual power apart from God, are an abomination to the Lord, Deuteronomy 18:10-12. When we have participated in those things, we must fully renounce them, repent, and turn to Christ alone, just as those in Ephesus who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them, Acts 19:19. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess and renounce every new age practice and agreement by name before the Lord, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. The harassment you describe is not surprising, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. Yet we do not need to fear, for greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4, and Jesus has given us authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, Luke 10:19. The way we overcome is to submit ourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7, and to put on the whole armor of God, Ephesians 6:11, through daily prayer, the Word, and obedience.

We noticed your request spoke of God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and deliverance from darkness. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is by the name of Jesus that demons must flee and that our forgiveness is secured through His blood on the cross. If you have not fully trusted in Jesus as Lord and Savior, believing He died for your sins and rose again, we urge you to do so today and to call upon His name in every prayer, for we can only be delivered and have peace with God through Him.

We think your desire to talk with your pastor and elders is very wise and biblical, for in the multitude of counselors there is safety, Proverbs 11:14, and they can provide face to face discernment, prayer for deliverance, and accountability that we cannot provide at a distance. Please do not walk through this alone. Bring them the whole story, including the new age history, the unforgiveness the Lord revealed, the pressure you feel, and the ongoing harassment, so they can pray with you, help you set godly boundaries, and help you discern when to reach out and when to step back.

We are praying together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. We thank You for opening their eyes to the trap of unforgiveness and we ask You to give them grace to fully forgive as You have forgiven them, releasing every debt and choosing to bless those who have harmed them. Lord, we renounce on their behalf every agreement with the new age and every demonic influence that came through it, and we plead the blood of Jesus over their life, their mind, and their home. We command in the name of Jesus that every harassing spirit must leave and go where You send it and not return. Fill every place once occupied by darkness with Your Holy Spirit, Your peace, and Your truth. Grant them wisdom beyond their own theorizing, James 1:5, to know how to obey Romans 12:18 without striving to force reconciliation where there is no repentance. Protect them from pressure and deception, open the eyes of those around them, and give their pastor and elders discernment and courage to shepherd them well. Teach them to put on Your full armor daily, to stand firm, to resist the devil while submitted to You, and to rest in the truth that no weapon formed against them shall prosper because greater are You in them than he who is in the world. Bring genuine peace where it is Your will, and bring godly boundaries where needed, and let them know they are deeply loved, fully forgiven, and never alone. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and deliverer, amen.

Thank you for trusting us with this again. We hear how heavy and tangled this feels, wanting to do what is right before God, carrying past hurts on both sides, feeling nervous every time you reach out, and sensing a spiritual weight behind it all while also wondering if others around you really see what you are facing.

It makes sense you would feel torn. Wanting to forgive and wanting to reconcile are not the same thing. Forgiveness is a work God can do in your own heart over time, but rebuilding a relationship takes mutual willingness, safety, and honesty, and it is wise to move slowly when trust has been broken and you are unsure about others' motives.

Since you mentioned your pastor and elders might understand, we think that instinct is a good one to follow. Before you take more steps to contact those who have hurt you, would you consider inviting one trusted pastor or elder to sit with you privately, hear the full story, and pray with you about what next contact, if any, should look like and what healthy boundaries would be? You shouldn't have to sort all of this alone, and having one wise person beside you can help you feel less pressured and more protected as you discern.

Father, in Jesus' name we lift our friend to You. We ask for Your protection, peace, and clear wisdom for each decision ahead. Guard their heart as they seek to forgive, give them safe and understanding counsel, and lead them step by step in Your will. Help them know they are seen and not alone. Amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord and we have heard with much tenderness the trial you describe, the harassment, the oppression that followed your former way in the new age, and the heavy work of learning to forgive.

Be assured of this first truth, that there is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, and it is surprising forgiveness and complete forgiveness. If you tremble and shake for fear and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness, hear the whisper that drives away despair, there is forgiveness, there is forgiveness with Thee that Thou mayest be feared. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that sheweth mercy. You need not wait to find whether there may be forgiveness, for God has sent the message plainly, there is forgiveness, now at this moment, for whatever your sins may have been. He not only forgave at the first all your sins when you came to Christ, but He continues daily to forgive, and the forgiveness He gives for Christ's sake is an eternal forgiveness, a full forgiveness, an absolute blotting out of the debt, so that the Lord promises oblivion to all your debt when you put your trust in Christ. The ransom has been found. God Himself has said, I have found a ransom, and therefore your deliverance from the pit does not rest upon any invention of man. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance through the Lamb slain if God had not thought of it, and He makes deliverance effectual. He brought them forth, and He will bring you forth.

This is needful to keep in mind as you think upon making peace with those who have harmed you. The Scriptures call us to a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Some of us who have had so much manifest forgiveness ought to find it natural to open our hands to forgive. Yet hear this also, though you ought to desire your fellow creatures forgiveness, it is not necessary that you should have it to enter heaven, and your deliverance is not held hostage to their response. To forgive in the heart before God, releasing the debt and wishing no vengeance, is your calling. To be reconciled and to rebuild a relationship is another matter, which requires repentance, truth, and safety, and cannot be forced by pressure from others, even well meaning persons who may be blind to the reality of what you have suffered.

You are wise to feel the need for counsel and to think of your pastor and elders. Go to them. Spread not your griefs to the pitiless sea, but to those whom God has set as shepherds and to the Lord whose ear is open. Tell them plainly all you have told us, the history on both sides, the present pressure, the strange and evil behaviors you have seen, and the fear that others seem as if under a spell and concerned only for public perception. Ask them to help you discern between forgiving freely as Christ has forgiven you, and entrusting yourself again to those who have not shown the fruit of repentance. True peace within our borders is a gift of God, not a performance to satisfy men.

We will pray for you, that the Lord would give you a deep sense of His own forgiveness covering you, that He would keep you from long bondage under the remembrance of sin, that He would grant you deliverance that is solely by His power and attended with enrichment, that He would guard you from the archers of discord and from all demonic oppression through the blood of Christ, that He would give you wisdom to forgive as you have been forgiven while walking in prudence, and that He would provide a faithful pastor and elders who understand both the spiritual battle and the practical need for boundaries, so that you may not be pressed beyond what is wise, but may prove what is that good and acceptable will of God.

May the Lord who found the ransom and who brings His people forth with silver and gold, bring you forth also into a large place of peace, and make you to sing songs of deliverance for a greater salvation than that of Barak, even salvation by the Lord Jesus Christ.
