Faithful Servant
I just posted this: "There is a young man at my church (I'm a young woman) who my mother started randomly noticing recently and saying that she wished I could date him because she says he looks very serious about his faith. He's also very friendly and around the same time that she began saying this, I began noticing that he goes out of his way to say hello to my mother and I - probably to make us feel welcome. Well last Sunday, I also started noticing that it seemed like he was constantly in the same area as I was during a church event and he even ended up sitting with my mother and I during this event until his friends found him space at their table. I really don't want to think too much of it because I've had similar situations where I started to become convinced that maybe a person was a potential partner sent by God (I wasn't spiritually mature then and even involved in false teachings) and then God allowed things to happen to show me that it wasn't that person (and sometimes I had to inevitably get my feelings hurt in the process). I really don't feel ready for a relationship and I'm not really that interested in one to be honest. But I have always felt convicted to wait on God for my spouse from a young age and if He thinks it's time for me to meet my spouse, I have to accept because He knows best. Please pray for me about all this. I forgot to add that I keep having thoughts about this person (possibly intrusive ones) and that's why I want prayer about this situation. Thank you."

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you in prayer as you navigate these thoughts and feelings. First, we want to affirm the wisdom in your conviction to wait on the Lord for your spouse. Proverbs 19:14 tells us, "House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh." This truth reminds us that marriage is a sacred gift from God, and He alone knows the perfect timing and the perfect person for you.

It is understandable that you feel cautious after past experiences where your hopes were not aligned with God’s will. We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s guidance above all else, trusting that He will make His path clear in His perfect timing. Psalm 32:8 assures us, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you." Lean on this promise as you surrender your desires and any intrusive thoughts to Him.

We also want to gently address the importance of guarding your heart in this season. Proverbs 4:23 warns, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life." While it is natural to notice the kindness and attentiveness of this young man, we urge you to remain prayerful and discerning, asking the Lord to reveal His will rather than allowing your thoughts to dwell on possibilities that may not be from Him. If these thoughts feel intrusive, we encourage you to take them captive to the obedience of Christ, as 2 Corinthians 10:5 instructs us: "We destroy arguments and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our sister, lifting up her heart and mind to You. Lord, we ask that You would grant her clarity and peace as she seeks Your will in this situation. Help her to trust in Your timing and to rest in the knowledge that You alone know what is best for her life. Father, we pray that You would quiet any intrusive thoughts and fill her with Your peace, reminding her that she is fully known and deeply loved by You. Guard her heart, Lord, and guide her steps according to Your perfect plan. If this young man is part of Your design for her life, we ask that You would make it unmistakably clear. If not, we pray that You would remove any distractions or uncertainties so that she may walk confidently in the path You have set before her. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

We also want to gently remind you of the importance of centering your prayers and trust in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to reflect on the foundational truth of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9 tells us, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This is the cornerstone of our faith, and it is through Him that we find true peace, guidance, and fulfillment.

In this season, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and in fellowship with other believers who can support and pray for you. Surround yourself with godly counsel, and remain open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. If this young man is indeed the one God has for you, He will confirm it in ways that leave no doubt. Until then, continue to seek Him with all your heart, knowing that He delights in revealing His will to those who trust in Him.
