Guidance

Thank you for sharing what is pressing on your heart right now. There is a lot weighing on you at once, decisions about people you are meeting and events you could attend, needs in your body, thirst and weariness, and a deep desire for peace and rest. I have prayed for you and want to offer some biblical encouragement to help you walk through this in faith.

When you face more than one good looking option and you are not sure which way to go, do not move impulsively. Scripture shows the early believers looking to the Holy Spirit for guidance in all things, praying and waiting until it was clear what seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to them. That is still the pattern for us. Bring each opportunity before the Lord, ask Him for wisdom, and weigh it honestly. Will gathering with other believers to worship and hear the Word build you up spiritually. Will the other gathering truly help your body and keep you in healthy company. The Lord cares about both your spiritual and physical needs, and there is a higher principle than just keeping busy. He wants to minister to your whole person. Ask Him to make your path clear, to open the right door and close the other, and to give you peace about the choice rather than pressure to decide in your own strength.

That peace is part of what the Bible calls rest. God has left a promise of rest for His people, and that rest remains open today. We do not enter it by trying harder, by our skills or efforts, but by believing that Jesus has finished the work for us. On the seventh day God rested from His creation work, and that Sabbath was a picture of the greater rest we have in Christ. When we trust in Jesus and His finished work on the cross, we cease from striving to earn favor and we enter His rest. Hebrews reminds us that we who have believed do enter that rest, and that there remains a rest for the people of God. If your heart is anxious, fearful, or trying to figure everything out on your own, bring that to Jesus. Rest is found not by seeing the whole plan ahead, but by trusting the One who has completed it. He is our Sabbath, our rest.

You also asked for healing, for your mouth to be straightened after the injury at the dentist, for the effects of aging to be reversed, for crooked places to be made straight, and for this intense thirst to be quenched. The Lord does care about your body. When Matthew describes Jesus healing all who were brought to Him, he connects it to Isaiah's prophecy that the Messiah would bear our sicknesses as well as our sins. That shows that physical healing is included in what Christ carried for us, not only spiritual forgiveness. When we remember the bread at communion, we remember His body broken for us. At the same time, Scripture keeps the greatest miracle in perspective. The forgiveness of sins and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ alone is far greater than any physical healing, and not every prayer for healing is answered in the same way or timing. Not all are given gifts of healing, and God in His wisdom works differently in each life. So we pray boldly for your body to be healed and restored, for the thirst to be eased and for you to sleep well, while also trusting His sovereign care for you. The blood of Jesus covers and protects you, not as a formula to claim, but as the true ground of your acceptance and safety before God. And the thirst you feel, even physically, points to the deeper thirst only He can satisfy, for Jesus promised living water to those who come to Him in faith.

The promise that God will make crooked places straight is a beautiful one. He does straighten what is bent in our lives as we walk with Him, sometimes in our bodies, always in our hearts as He conforms us to Christ.

I pray the Lord will give you clear guidance by His Spirit for these decisions and new relationships, that you will guard your heart and walk in wisdom with those you meet, that you will enter more deeply into the rest that comes only through faith in Jesus, ceasing from your own striving, and that He will touch your body, ease your thirst, and grant you quiet, restorative rest. Do not put off trusting Him fully today. If you have not already, place your complete confidence in Jesus Christ for salvation, and then continue to rest in Him day by day. May the Lord keep you, heal you according to His gracious will, and let you know His peace that passes understanding.
