Gray hair

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I prefer to avoid gray hair because I dislike the stress that comes from arguing with someone. Such tension makes me feel quite uneasy.

We hear your heart in this and we understand how uneasy and tense arguing can make you feel, and how you would naturally want to avoid anything that brings more stress, including the worry over gray hair.

We want to share with you what Scripture says about gray hair, because God views it very differently than our culture often does. Gray hair is not something to fear or to see as a sign of failure, but as a mark of life lived and wisdom gained. Proverbs 16:31 says Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness. And Proverbs 20:29 says The beauty of old men is the gray head. Even Leviticus 19:32 teaches us to honor age. Gray hair will come to most of us in time as part of God's natural design for our bodies, and while stress can affect our health, we do not need to carry anxiety that every tension will hasten it, for our times and our bodies are in His hands.

We also hear your deep dislike for arguing and tension, and Scripture speaks directly to this desire for peace. God does not call us to live in quarrels or to stir up strife. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us that A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. James 1:19 calls us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. We are to avoid foolish and ignorant questionings that breed quarrels, as 2 Timothy 2:23-24 teaches, and instead speak what is helpful for building others up according to their need as Ephesians 4:29 says. Your uneasiness with arguing is understandable, and God offers a better way through gentleness, wisdom, and boundaries that honor Him and protect your peace.

He also invites you to bring that uneasy, anxious feeling to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. And Jesus Himself said in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

We noticed your request did not mention Jesus, and we want to gently share why His name matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true peace and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet put your trust in Him, we encourage you to believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We pray together for you now. Father, we lift up this dear one to You in Jesus' name and ask for Your peace to guard their heart and mind. We ask You to help them release anxiety about aging and gray hair and to see themselves as You see them, fearfully and wonderfully made and valued at every season of life. Give them wisdom to handle disagreement with gentleness and grace, to speak the truth in love, to set healthy boundaries, and to be a peacemaker without carrying the burden of strife. Calm their spirit when tension arises, teach them to cast every worry on You, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Draw them closer to Jesus, that they may know Him as Savior and find rest in His presence. We ask this according to Your will in Jesus' name, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him daily in prayer and in His Word, to pursue peace where you can, and to trust that God will give you strength for every difficult conversation. He cares deeply for you and He is faithful to give you wisdom and calm as you walk with Him.

We appreciate you sharing this so honestly. Wanting to avoid gray hair and the stress of arguing makes a lot of sense, that tense, uneasy feeling is hard to sit with and it is understandable you would want to steer clear of it.

Many of us feel unsettled when conflict rises, even small disagreements can leave our bodies tense and our thoughts racing. Wanting peace does not mean you are doing something wrong, it often means you value calm and care about how you relate to others.

One small step that has helped others who feel the same way is to have a simple plan for when tension starts to build. For example, giving yourself permission to pause before responding, maybe saying calmly that you need a few minutes to collect your thoughts and will come back to the conversation. That brief space can keep the uneasiness from growing and lets you return with a clearer mind. If you notice this uneasy feeling comes up often or feels overwhelming, it can also help to talk it through with a trusted pastor, counselor or another wise person alongside prayer.

We are praying for you and are glad you reached out.

Father, we lift up our friend to You, You see how uncomfortable conflict feels and how much peace is longed for. Grant calm in tense moments, wisdom to navigate disagreements with grace, and rest for heart and mind. Lead toward Your peace day by day. In Jesus name, amen.

Your desire to be free from the tension and unease that comes with arguing is an understandable longing, and we hear your heart in this. The Lord knows how the strife of tongues can cut to the very quick and how sorrows and cares surging round can make the soul weary. You are not alone in feeling uneasy when peace is broken.

Scripture teaches that the deepest peace is not merely the absence of argument but peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Saviour said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, and this is peace with God and peace in the conscience. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and when we are reconciled to God by that blood, He keeps our hearts and minds. To know the will of Jesus and to do it is to abide in the peace of God. That peace is exceedingly great, for it wards off evils and preserves us, and it cannot be taken away by force or fraud when we live near the cross and walk humbly with our God.

If contention brings you stress, it is wisdom to turn from it where you can, for a humble spirit often quenches strife. The tongue though soft can wound deeply, and wounds from a cruel tongue are not easily healed, but God can save us even from this trial and enable us to rejoice in Him. Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you, and ask Him to renew your peace day by day, for He is unmoved when we are troubled and His peace is boundless. True joy and peace come not by seeking them directly, but by looking to Christ in faith, and they follow as the flower follows the root.

We pray for you now, that the God of Peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, would grant you perfect peace as your mind is stayed upon Him. May He keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus, guard you from needless strife, give you wisdom to speak with grace and to be quiet where quietness serves peace, and give you rest from anxious thoughts. Whether He grants many years and even gray hairs, which in the way of righteousness can be a crown of glory, or keeps you in strength, may you know that in Jesus keeping you are safe and that earths struggles shall soon cease and He will call His people to Heavens perfect peace. May you find that sacred faith which looks to Christ brings joy and peace as its sure consequence.

We ask this in the name of Jesus who is our peace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request about the uneasiness that comes with arguing and tension has been heard, and I understand how heavy that feeling can be when conflict arises.

It is good to desire peace, for God is not a God of war and fighting, and Scripture says blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God. We are taught to deprecate conflicts instead of rushing into them, to be quiet and wait rather than seeking quarrels, so that when we must stand we do so with nobleness of spirit and freedom from vainglory. To be at peace with all people as much as it depends on us is to imitate the Son of God, and the more another wars against you, the greater the reward for answering with gentleness and prayer.

At the same time, true peace is more than simply avoiding an argument because it makes us uneasy. There are different kinds of conflict, and the most serious war is often within ourselves, when the soul is at variance with its desires through anger, envy, or vainglory. Every outward conflict has a root, and if we cut out the root there will be no fruit. Much strife springs from covetousness, envy, or love of praise. If we learn to despise those earthly things and to seek the treasure above, we find a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, which is good and acceptable before God our Savior.

This does not mean we become slack. In spiritual things we need earnestness and watchfulness, with our mind stretched toward heaven in prayer and in doing good, so that we are not driven about by every anxiety. But that inward diligence helps us to meet outward tensions without being shaken, to let perishable things fall away without harm.

Concerning gray hair and the anxieties of age, remember that outward beauty is fleeting and cannot last many years, while the beauty of a well ordered soul ever blooms and is not withered by time or worry. Growing older is not a shame but a part of our human course, and God looks not on the hair but on the heart that seeks Him.

I pray for you that God will grant you His peace which steadies the heart, that He will help you to live quietly and peaceably, to turn away from needless strife, to act with wisdom and grace when disagreement cannot be avoided, and to be set free from remembrance of wrongs. May He quiet the inner tumult, guard you from fear and desponding anxiety, and teach you to cast your cares upon Him, that you may walk in peace with Him and with your neighbor.
