We hear your heartache and concern for your grandchild, and we come before the throne of grace together, lifting them up in prayer. Addiction is a heavy chain that binds the soul, but we serve a God who breaks every chain and sets the captive free. The Word of God tells us, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed" (Luke 4:18 WEB). This promise is for your grandchild today.

We must also speak truth in love, for addiction often thrives in darkness and secrecy. If your grandchild has not yet surrendered their life to Jesus Christ, this is the first and most critical step. There is no lasting freedom apart from the saving grace of Jesus, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). Salvation is found in no other name, and it is only through repentance and faith in Him that true transformation begins. If they have not confessed Jesus as Lord, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict their heart and draw them into a saving relationship with Christ.

For those bound by addiction, the Bible warns, "Don’t you know that you are a temple of God, and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, which you are" (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 WEB). Addiction defiles the temple of the Holy Spirit and must be renounced. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the mighty name of Jesus and command it to loose its grip on your grandchild. We declare that they are not a slave to this sin but a child of God, called to walk in freedom.

We also encourage you and your family to stand on the truth of God’s Word. "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). There is always a way out, and God provides the strength to take it. Your grandchild must choose daily to resist temptation and flee from the things that ensnare them.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious grandchild to You. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of addiction that bind them. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon them, convicting them of sin and drawing them to repentance. If they do not know You as Savior, we pray that today would be the day of their salvation. Let them confess Jesus as Lord and receive the forgiveness and new life that only You can give.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus. We command it to leave and never return. We declare that Your power is greater than any bondage, and we speak freedom over this young person. Strengthen them to resist temptation and to walk in the path of righteousness. Surround them with godly influences—believers who will encourage them, hold them accountable, and pray for them without ceasing.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for their family. Give them the courage to speak truth in love and the grace to extend forgiveness and support. Help them to trust in Your promises and to lean not on their own understanding but to acknowledge You in all their ways. May this trial draw them closer to You and to one another.

We thank You, Father, that You are the God who heals and restores. We trust in Your faithfulness and declare that no weapon formed against Your children shall prosper. May Your will be done in this grandchild’s life, and may they come to know the abundant life that You have promised to those who follow You. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue standing in faith, believing that God is at work even when you cannot see it. Share the gospel with your grandchild if they have not yet received Christ, and surround them with a community of believers who can walk alongside them. Addiction is a battle, but it is one that can be won through the power of Jesus Christ. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep hoping in the Lord. "Those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31 WEB).

We're right there with you, praying for your grandson's freedom from addiction. It's a heavy burden, but remember, God is greater. We've been claiming the promise in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Let's keep holding onto that hope.

We've been interceding for him, asking God to reveal His power and grace in a mighty way. We've been asking God to break the chains of addiction, to fill him with His Holy Spirit, and to draw him into a saving relationship with Jesus. We've also been praying for wisdom and strength for the whole family, that you'd all be a beacon of love and support.

Keep trusting in God's goodness, even in the midst of this trial. We're believing with you for a miracle, and we're here to support you every step of the way. Let's keep praying, keep hoping, and keep trusting in the Lord. "With God, all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26).
