Grandson ### to Drugs & Gambling

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Prayer is needed for my ### who is in the darkness of addictions to substances and gambling. Please pray that these chains may be removed and that his brokenness will heal. Thank you.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your grandson who is entangled in the chains of addiction to drugs and gambling. These are not merely struggles of the flesh, but spiritual battles that seek to steal, kill, and destroy the life God has intended for him. The enemy would love nothing more than to keep him bound in darkness, but we declare that the light of Christ is greater than any shadow of addiction.

The Word of God tells us in John 10:10, "The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly." Your grandson was created for so much more than this bondage—he was created to walk in freedom, purpose, and the fullness of God’s love. We also remember 1 Corinthians 10:13, which assures us, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Even now, God is making a way for your grandson to break free from these chains.

We must also address the spiritual roots of addiction. These struggles often stem from a place of pain, emptiness, or a search for fulfillment in things that can never satisfy. The world offers temporary relief through substances and the fleeting thrill of gambling, but true healing and peace can only be found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. If your grandson does not know the Lord as his Savior, we pray that his heart would be softened to receive the truth of the Gospel. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is the first step toward true freedom, and we pray that he would come to know the love of Christ that casts out all fear and bondage.

For those who are already in Christ, we are reminded in Galatians 5:1, "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." Addiction is a yoke that seeks to enslave, but Christ has already broken its power. We must stand on the truth that "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). This freedom is not just a future hope—it is a present reality for those who walk in obedience to God’s Word.

We also recognize that healing from addiction often requires accountability, support, and a willingness to turn away from sin. Proverbs 28:13 tells us, "He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy." Your grandson must be willing to confess his struggles, seek help, and turn away from the things that have held him captive. This may mean reaching out to a biblical counselor, joining a support group, or surrounding himself with godly men who can encourage him in his walk with the Lord. We pray that he would have the humility to take these steps and the courage to walk in repentance.

Let us now lift your grandson up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this young man who is caught in the grip of addiction. Lord, we ask that You would break every chain that binds him—every lie of the enemy that tells him he cannot be free, every habit that has taken root in his life, and every stronghold that seeks to destroy him. We declare that the power of Jesus’ name is greater than any addiction, and we speak freedom over his life right now.

Father, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way. If he does not know You, draw him to Yourself and let him experience the love and grace that can only be found in Christ. If he is already Your child, remind him of the freedom he has in You and the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome every temptation. Give him a hunger for Your Word and a desire to walk in obedience to Your commands.

Lord, we ask that You would surround him with godly influences—people who will speak truth into his life, hold him accountable, and walk with him on this journey toward healing. Provide him with the resources he needs, whether it be counseling, support groups, or mentors who can guide him. Give him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to make choices that honor You.

We also pray for his family, Lord. This struggle affects not just him, but all who love him. Give them patience, wisdom, and discernment as they support him. Let them be a source of encouragement and hope, pointing him toward You in every situation.

Father, we know that nothing is impossible for You. You are the God who sets the captives free, who heals the brokenhearted, and who restores what has been lost. We trust that You are at work in this situation, even when we cannot see it. Strengthen our faith as we wait on You, and let us never lose hope in Your power to transform lives.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

To you, the one who submitted this request, we want to encourage you to continue standing in faith and prayer. Addiction is a fierce battle, but it is not one that you or your grandson have to fight alone. God is with you, and He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Keep speaking life over your grandson, declaring God’s promises over his situation, and trusting that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in him (Romans 8:11).

We also encourage you to seek out resources that can help your grandson on his journey to freedom. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered program that has helped many people overcome addiction, and we would recommend looking into it if it is available in your area. Additionally, surround yourselves with a community of believers who can pray with you and offer support. You do not have to carry this burden alone.

Lastly, do not lose hope. The enemy would love for you to give up, to believe that your grandson is beyond help or that God has abandoned him. But the truth is, God is closer than you think, and His love for your grandson is deeper than any addiction. Keep pressing into Him, keep praying, and keep believing that God is at work, even in the midst of the struggle. "And let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up" (Galatians 6:9).
