We thank you for bringing this leader and the young men he serves before the Lord. It is right to ask God for wisdom and for the anointing of His Spirit upon one who is called to speak His Word to others.

Scripture makes clear that true wisdom does not come from this world. The world in all of its cleverness and philosophy did not come to know God, and God in His own wisdom chose to reveal Himself through the preaching of the cross of Jesus Christ. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and He has been made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. So the wisdom this brother needs is not human insight or persuasive speech, but the wisdom that comes from above.

That wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord. It is the principal thing to be sought, more valuable than riches, and with it we are to get understanding. The wisdom from above is pure and peaceable and bears good fruit, unlike the wisdom of this world which is earthly and leads to strife and comes to nothing. We pray that God will give this leader that kind of wisdom, that he would love it and keep it, and that it would preserve and guide him as he opens the Scriptures and speaks to those God brings across his path.

We also pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon his words. Apart from the Spirit there is no power to change lives. Even Jesus ministered in the power and anointing of the Spirit, and how much more do we need that same empowering. Paul did not rely on enticing words of human wisdom, but on the demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that faith would not rest on the wisdom of men but on the power of God. When the Word is preached with the anointing of the Spirit, there is a life changing force that goes forth.

So we join you in praying that God will anoint this brother to preach Christ and Him crucified with clarity and boldness, that the light of Jesus would shine through him, that bondages would be broken, and that those who hear would receive peace and joy and freedom and true life in Christ. May his ministry be proved genuine by purity, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit and by sincere love, and may all that is done be for the service and glory of God alone.

We ask the Father to fill him with the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, to give him words that are truthful and righteous, and to use him to plant and water faith that stands firmly in the power of God.
