Your prayer for God's will and guidance has been heard, and we join you in asking that His will be done in your life and in your family. It is right and good to seek to be led in His way, especially when you have struggled financially for a while. God does not forget those who seek Him, and even in hardship He is at work to teach, to strengthen, and to draw you closer to Himself.
All things appear difficult to us when we do not keep the remembrance of God always before us, when we do not carry Him in our thoughts. The prophet says, I will remember You from the land of Jordan. So in this season, keep remembering Him. Seek Him first in prayer, in His Word, and in a faithful church life, and trust that as you remember Him, He will guide your steps. His guidance is not always an immediate change in circumstances, but a steady leading toward what is good and holy. He has entrusted to each of us a work to do, to labor and to struggle faithfully where He has placed us, trusting Him for the outcome.
You asked about what is causing the struggle and about asking forgiveness for whatever you are reaping, even from generations back. Hear what Scripture teaches with clarity and comfort. The Son of God has come and He alone is the way of salvation, and through His cross He has borne the curse for us. The Word says the son shall not bear the guilt of the father, but each one will answer for his own ways. There is no hidden generational debt that remains unforgiven once a person is in Christ. What does pass from one generation to another are patterns, habits and examples, and these we can turn from by repentance and by learning a new way in Christ.
For this reason it is best to avoid sin in the first place, and next to it, to feel that we have sinned and to amend ourselves thoroughly. When we pray for forgiveness, God does not want vague words about unknown faults from long ago. He wants us to tell our offenses in particular, that we may learn for what we receive forgiveness and become grateful to our Benefactor. So bring before Him what you know to be sin in your own life, in plain and honest confession. If you have sinned, you have for your Master One who loves mankind. Entreat Him, implore Him with a sincere heart, and trust His promise that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive.
And there is a way to forgiveness that needs no long journey or great expense, but only our own willing heart. As we have been forgiven a great debt, so we are called to forgive those who have injured or defrauded us and not to bear malice. This willingness to forgive others keeps our own heart soft before God.
Be encouraged that God is surpassingly benevolent. The servant in the parable asked only for time to pay, but the master moved with compassion forgave the entire debt. You ask for guidance and for help, and He is able to give more than you ask, remission and mercy and daily grace. Believe the declaration of God more than what sight or feeling tells you. His Word does not fail.
So we will keep you and your family in prayer. We pray that God will grant you wisdom for work and for stewardship, contentment and diligence, and that He will provide for your needs according to His riches in Christ. We pray that He will show each of you any sin that needs to be confessed particularly, and that you will know the joy of full forgiveness through Jesus Christ alone. We pray that you will remember Him continually and that He will make His will clear as you walk faithfully day by day.

Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and for wanting God's will above all else. That desire itself is evidence that God is at work in you, leading you and teaching you even in this hard season.
Struggling financially for a long time is heavy, and it is heavy for a whole family to carry it together. God does use seasons of need to teach us to turn to Him, to listen for His guidance, and to trust His provision. His love does not fail even when we have failed. Though we may fail miserably, His unfailing love remains, and His desire is to restore and to draw us closer to Himself.
You mentioned feeling that you are reaping something and wondering about forgiveness for what may have gone back generations. Scripture is clear that each person is accountable before God for his own sin, and also that God invites each person to come directly to Him now for forgiveness. The forgiveness God offers through Jesus Christ is total and complete. When He forgives, He blots out the sin, washes and cleanses it, and remembers it no more. He never brings it up again. To be justified means God treats you as though you had never sinned at all because the sin was placed under the blood of Jesus. That is the beauty of His forgiveness. It is not like our human way of saying we forgive but still holding on to the offense. With God, forgiveness includes forgetting, in the sense that He will not hold that sin against you ever again.
That forgiveness is only found in God's plan through Jesus. All manner of sin can be forgiven when a person turns and asks the Lord for it with a repentant heart. The only thing that keeps a person from forgiveness is not coming to ask for it. The invitation is open to all who will come to Jesus to receive cleansing and pardon, to drink of the water of life freely. You do not need to carry a vague burden of guilt for generations past. Bring your own sins, known and unknown, to Jesus today and receive His complete pardon. And as you have received forgiveness, God calls you to live in that same spirit of forgiveness toward others.
Forgiveness is not a matter of counting how many times, but a matter of the heart. God commands a spirit of forgiveness, and when you are willing, He will give you the capacity. Pray honestly, ask Him to take away any bitterness or unforgiving spirit and to give you a heart that forgives as you have been forgiven. That is part of walking in love as those who have been so loved, so blessed, and so provided for by God. It is also one of the keys to peace of mind, to forgive as God in Christ has forgiven you, and to let His Word dwell in you as your strength and defense against sin. His Word, given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, waters the life like rain on dry ground. It will not return empty but will accomplish what He purposes as you receive it with an open heart.
Please do not think you must earn God's favor or buy His blessing by praying more, fasting more, or giving more. God's blessings come through faith in Jesus Christ, who became poor so that through Him you might know the riches of God's grace. Because you are loved and blessed in Christ, you can now walk in love and trust Him for daily guidance, including financial guidance, seeking His wisdom step by step.
We are praying for you and your family. We ask the Lord to show you His will clearly, to provide for your needs according to His wisdom, to give you His peace, and to help each member of your family to come to Jesus for full forgiveness and new life. May you know today that when you turn to Him, your sins are washed away, not to be mentioned against you again, and may that assurance give you hope and direction for the path ahead.
