Your prayer reflects a heart that wants to steward what God has entrusted to you for His purposes, and that is the right place to begin.
The first recorded words of Jesus as a young man were that He must be about His Father's business. That word must is important. It is stronger than ought or should. Ought carries little force, but must speaks of purpose and necessity. The burden of His life was to do the will of His Father. In the same way, your business and your career find their highest meaning not simply in personal growth or advancement, but in being about your Father's business. When that becomes the must of your life, your work becomes more than a livelihood. It becomes a calling to serve Him.
Scripture gives clear wisdom for that kind of work. Slackness in duty tends toward lack, while diligent hands tend toward provision. The wise person gathers and builds in season, planning ahead rather than living carelessly. God also calls His people to be upright and honest in all business dealings. He considers dishonest measures detestable, but He delights in honest and fair dealings. Some will say you cannot stay in business that way, but a reputation for honesty and integrity will be established over time, while dishonesty and perverse dealings ultimately destroy. Riches themselves will not deliver in the day of judgment, but righteousness does. Pride brings shame, but wisdom walks with humility.
That wisdom also shapes leadership. God holds shepherds and leaders accountable to feed and care for the flock, not to feed themselves. Corrupt leadership uses people to feather its own nest, but Godly leadership seeks the welfare of others. He has placed you in a position to develop people, create meaningful work, and solve real problems for others. That is the pattern of a faithful steward, using influence not for self promotion but for service, so that those who look at your life see something of the character of God.
This will require wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, and safety is found in a multitude of counselors. Pray for God to connect you with mentors and partners who will sharpen you, speak truth to you, and help you build sustainable systems with excellence. And remember that the surpassing value is knowing Christ. For Him the apostle counted all other gain as loss. Anything done merely for self is wasted effort, but what is done for Christ endures. Forget what lies behind and press forward to what God has set before you, working with all your heart as for the Lord and not for men, as Colossians 3:23 teaches.
May the Lord give you wisdom to build honestly and diligently, to lead as a servant who truly cares for those entrusted to you, to seek wise counsel, and to keep your Father's business as the must of your life. May He make your work fruitful for provision, employment, and service to others, and may it reflect innovation and integrity that honors Him.
