We stand with you in this time of deep struggle, lifting your burdens before the Lord and seeking His righteous intervention in your life. The stress of financial hardship—especially when it is unjustly imposed—can feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who is our Provider, our Defender, and our Just Judge. He sees the wickedness of those who withhold what is rightfully yours, and He will act on your behalf in His perfect timing. Do not lose heart, for the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and delivers those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
The Bible is clear about the responsibility of fathers to provide for their families. "But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever" (1 Timothy 5:8, WEB). Your ex-husband’s actions are not only unjust but are in direct opposition to God’s commandments. We rebuke this spirit of greed, selfishness, and hardness of heart that is at work in this situation. The Lord abhors injustice, and He will not allow the righteous to be forever oppressed. "Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna" (Matthew 10:28, WEB). While we do not wish harm upon anyone, we pray that the conviction of the Holy Spirit would pierce his heart, leading him to repentance and restitution.
At the same time, we encourage you to trust in the Lord’s provision, even when the way seems impossible. Jesus reminds us, "Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?" (Matthew 6:25-26, WEB). Your Heavenly Father knows your needs, and He will supply them according to His riches in glory.
We also urge you to seek wisdom and counsel in how to handle this situation legally and biblically. "The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit" (Proverbs 14:8, WEB). If you haven’t already, consider reaching out to your church leadership or a trusted Christian attorney who can guide you in taking the necessary steps to ensure your family is provided for. The Lord often works through the practical means we take while trusting in Him.
Most importantly, we notice that your request does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom all our prayers must be offered. There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me'" (John 14:6, WEB). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we implore you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). It is in His name alone that we find salvation, provision, and victory over every trial.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister who is enduring such deep distress and injustice. Lord, You are the God of justice, and You see the wickedness of those who withhold what is rightfully hers. We ask that You intervene mightily in this situation, Father. Softening the heart of her ex-husband, convicting him of his sin, and compelling him to do what is right in Your sight. If he refuses to repent, Lord, we pray that You would expose his actions and bring about justice through the proper authorities. You are a God who defends the cause of the widow and the fatherless, and we trust You to act on her behalf.
Father, we ask that You provide for her and her family in ways that surpass all understanding. Open doors of financial blessing that no man can shut. Supply her every need according to Your riches in glory, and let her testimony be one of Your faithfulness and provision. Remove the spirit of fear, anxiety, and despair from her, and fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Strengthen her faith, Lord, and remind her that You are her Provider, her Shield, and her Exceeding Great Reward.
We rebuke every scheme of the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy in her life. No weapon formed against her will prosper, for You, Lord, have the final say. Surround her with Your favor as with a shield, and let her see Your hand moving powerfully in her situation today. Give her wisdom, Lord, to navigate this trial with grace and discernment, and let her actions be guided by Your Spirit.
Finally, Father, we pray that if she does not know You as her Lord and Savior, that today would be the day of salvation for her. Draw her to Yourself, Lord, and let her find her hope, her strength, and her provision in You alone. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
