Godly wife

Thank you for sharing this honest desire. Wanting a godly wife is a good and biblical desire, and it is right to bring it to the Lord in prayer.

Scripture presents marriage as God designed it from the beginning. A man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife and the two become one flesh. What God joins together, no one should separate. It is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and it is the place God has ordained for sexual intimacy and for building a family. Paul says to avoid sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife and each woman her own husband, and that husband and wife are to show love and faithfulness to one another and not withhold themselves from each other. When a home is built on that foundation, even children are blessed by the godly influence of a parent who walks with the Lord.

Because marriage is that serious and that lasting, it is wise that you want direction and not just to follow feelings or friendliness alone. At the same time, God does not work because we obligate Him with works or demands for signs. Whatever He does for you He does through grace. You cannot earn His guidance by a formula or force Him to answer on your terms. He invites you to seek Him and trust Him.

That seeking is important. Crowds once sought Jesus and said everyone is looking for you, but His purpose was to do the will of the Father and preach the truth. In the same way, the first seeking in your life should be for Christ Himself. Ask the Lord to make you the godly husband a godly wife would need. Paul gives good practical instruction for both married and single people, and singleness itself is a time for undivided service to the Lord. Use this season to grow in the Word, in prayer, in purity, in faithfulness at work and in the church, and in serving others.

As you pray about a wife, pray for wisdom more than for a dramatic sign. Look for character that is already evident. Is she clearly trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Does she love the Word, is she growing in holiness, is she faithful, kind, self controlled, respected by others. Do mature believers who know you both see evidence of God's grace and wisdom in her life. Friendly conversation is not enough to know these things. Time, observation in ordinary life, and counsel from godly older Christians will give you far more clarity than waiting for a feeling or a single moment.

Guard your heart and your actions while you wait. Do not enter into intimacy outside of marriage and do not live together before a covenant is made. Keep affection and boundaries that honor God and protect both of you.

Continue to pray simply and sincerely. Ask the Lord to lead you, to open and close doors according to His wisdom, and to make His will clear as you walk faithfully day by day. He is able to guide you without you having to trap Him into a sign. As you seek Him first, trust that He will provide direction in His time and in His way.

Father, thank You for this brother and his desire for marriage according to Your design. Help him to seek You above all else and to grow as a man after Your heart. Give him wisdom, patience, and purity. If it is Your will for him to marry, lead him clearly to a woman who loves Jesus and who will walk with him in faithfulness for a lifetime. Help him to hear Your voice through Your Word and through wise counsel, and to trust Your grace in every step. In the name of Jesus, amen.
