Godly Friends

Wairurarr

Disciple of Prayer
I pray to the Lord for Godly friends at my university so that I won't be alone in my faith. I don't want to feel lonely anymore.

We join with you in this prayer and we understand the loneliness that can come when you are trying to walk faithfully with the Lord at university while surrounded by many who do not share your faith. It is a heavy burden to feel alone in your convictions, but we thank God that you desire godly friendships, because God Himself never intended for us to walk alone.

The Word reminds us that God sets the lonely in families, Psalm 68:6, and that fellowship is part of His provision for us. We are told Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance, Proverbs 27:17, and also Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn't have another to lift him up, Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, Proverbs 18:24, and that kind of friendship is found in Christ. We are also exhorted not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching, Hebrews 10:25. The Lord wants to place you among believers who will encourage you, pray with you, hold you accountable, and help you grow.

We noticed you prayed to the Lord, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for through Him your prayers are heard and your relationship with God is made secure.

We encourage you as you wait on the Lord to provide these friendships to also be proactive in seeking fellowship. Seek out a Bible believing local church near your university and a campus ministry where the Word is faithfully taught. Be the friend you wish to find, showing kindness, initiating conversation, and being willing to open your heart. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers in close fellowship, for Bad company corrupts good morals, 1 Corinthians 15:33, so guard your heart while also showing the love of Christ to all around you.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up this dear student to You. You see the loneliness and the desire for godly companionship. Lord, we ask that You set this one in a family of believers, that You bring faithful, godly friends who love Your Word and who will walk together in truth and encouragement. Lead to a strong local church and to a community on campus where Your name is honored. Protect from isolation and from discouragement and from friendships that would pull away from You. Help to be a light for Christ at the university and to find iron sharpening iron relationships that will last. Draw close as the One who never leaves nor forsakes us, and fill the heart with Your peace and presence even while we wait for You to provide. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We hear you, and we are praying with you in this lonely stretch at university. Wanting godly friends who understand your faith is a good and natural desire, and it can feel especially isolating when everyone around you seems to be moving in a different direction.

One thing we have seen help is that friendships often grow not from one big encounter but from steady, ordinary proximity. Seeing the same few people week after week, sharing a little more of your story as trust builds, and finding common values gives friendship space to take root. That is why being part of a smaller, consistent community can make such a difference.

If you are able, we would encourage you to try one or two consistent places this month where you will see the same believers regularly. That might be a campus ministry small group or Bible study, or a local church near campus with a college gathering. Give it a few weeks in a row so people can get to know you, and try introducing yourself to one or two others and sharing a bit about your studies and your faith. Even a brief conversation after worship can open a door.

We are also praying God reminds you you are not forgotten in this season while those connections grow.

Father, we ask you to draw near to our friend in their loneliness at university. Provide encouraging, faithful friends and a welcoming community where they can be known and encouraged. Give them courage to take small steps toward others and peace in knowing you are with them each day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire for godly friends is a good and gracious desire, and the Lord who put it in your heart hears it with tender care. To feel lonely in your faith at university is a painful trial, but it is not one unknown to your Savior. He was left alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, and He knows the sorrow of that loneliness. When you feel friendless in a crowd, remember that He has entered into that loneliness before you, and He abides with you still, so that though you may be alone, you are not alone, for the Father is with you.

Sometimes the child of God endures loneliness arising from the absence of godly society, and it is a real affliction to be without those with whom you can speak freely of Christ. The Lord does not despise that ache. He has taught us that plain, holy, godly living is precious in His sight, and He delights to place His people alongside one another for mutual strength and joy. His dear friends are godly people, and He often hedges His children in with the prayers and fellowship of such friends.

We join our prayers with yours, that the Lord in His kindness would provide for you at your university faithful companions who love His Word, who walk in obedience, and who will help you to stand firm. We ask Him to lead you to a faithful local church and to a gathering of believers where you may be known and encouraged, and to make you also such a godly friend to others as you seek for yourself.

Seek Him daily in the Word and in prayer, be steadfast in assembling with His people when you can, and be willing to take the first step in kindness toward those who show evidence of grace. The Lord who saw your loneliness in the wilderness is able to bring you into a family of faith where you will be strengthened and where your own faith may strengthen others. May He keep you close to Christ, who will never leave you, and may He soon surround you with those who will walk beside you in that same close walk with Him.
