The cry you have lifted up, Lord, help me, is itself a prayer that heaven loves to answer. That short prayer was once uttered by a woman who fell at the feet of Jesus and said, Lord, help me, and she did not prescribe how He should help her, for she believed in His wisdom, and she did not dictate what He should do, for she trusted His judgment. All she said was, Lord, help me, and that prayer is for everybody and for every place, wherever you may be.
Do not think that you must wait for a fitter time to approach the Saviour. If you have thought that the time has not come for you to come to Him, you have labored under a great error, for He would not have you delay for a single hour. As long as there stands that blood sprinkled Mercy Seat, who is it meant for, it is surely meant for the needy. Come at once, just as you are, with this same cry, Lord, help me.
You ask that no questions should come, and I understand this as the burden of a troubled and anxious heart that fears what may be asked or what trial may follow. The Lord knows how to deliver the righteous out of all their troubles, and the keys of Providence are not taken out of His hand yet. He may not keep every hard question from coming, but He will keep you in the hour of it, and He will give you wisdom and peace to answer or to stand silent as He sees best. Sometimes we have to wait and be prepared for the reception of the real thing, it is infinitely better for us to wait for months than immediately to get a stone, better to wait for a fish than the next moment to have a scorpion. Be sure that when there is abounding prayer, there must be abounding blessing before long.
Remember also that you have One who prays for you. What is the great protection of our faith, it is our Saviour's intercession. He says, I have prayed for you, and if Jesus pleads He must prevail. His prayer is prevalent and it goes before the temptation. You are not alone in your agony.
Turn your eyes to God's Word, for that is the best place for a true believer to find consolation, and though you do not immediately find the comfort you seek, continue to look till your eyes seem to fail, for God's eyes do not fail, nor His arm either. Cast your burden upon the Lord and you will find relief, for pardon for transgressions past and grace for the present hour are blotted out at once with one stroke through the blood of Jesus Christ, and salvation is through Him alone.
May the Lord hear this prayer, Lord, help me, and answer it for His own glory and for your good. May the God of peace be with you and keep you, and may He revive your heart and give you quiet confidence in Christ, for Jesus sake. Amen.
