We join with you in lifting up your heartās cry to the Lord, for He alone knows the deepest longings of your soul, and He hears every unspoken groan, every tear, and every whisper of your heart. You have rightly acknowledged that it is only in the name of Jesus Christ that we can approach the throne of God, for Scripture declares, *"There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB). It is through Himāand Him aloneāthat we find access to the Father, and it is in His name that we boldly come before Him with confidence (Hebrews 4:16).
Your desire to return to your "first love" for God is a plea that resonates deeply with the heart of our Savior. The words youāve echoed from Revelation 2:4 are a sobering reminder to all of us: *"But I have this against you, that you left your first love."* Oh, how the Lord longs for us to abide in that place of passionate devotion, where our hearts burn with love for Him above all else! He is jealous for you, not in a petty or selfish way, but with a holy and righteous jealousy, for He knows that only in Him will you find true fulfillment. As He spoke through the prophet Jeremiah, *"You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart"* (Jeremiah 29:13, WEB). He is waiting, arms open wide, ready to reveal Himself to you in ways you have yet to experience.
Yet we must also remember that returning to our first love is not merely about emotion or sentimentalityāit is about obedience, repentance, and surrender. Jesus said, *"If you love me, keep my commandments"* (John 14:15, WEB). True love for God is demonstrated in our willingness to turn from anything that has taken His place in our hearts, whether it be idols of comfort, distraction, sin, or even good things that have become ultimate things. Ask the Lord to search your heart, as David did: *"Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way"* (Psalm 139:23-24, WEB). Let Him expose anything that has dimmed your affection for Him, and then repentāturn away from itāand run back into His arms.
You have also asked for prayer regarding your unspoken groans and tears. Oh, beloved, the Lord collects every one of them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). He is not distant or indifferent to your pain. In fact, He entered into it Himself through the suffering of Christ, who *"in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear"* (Hebrews 5:7, WEB). Jesus understands your sorrow, your weariness, and your longing for intervention. He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He is moving on your behalf even now.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who longs to return to that place of first love for You. Lord, You are the one who initiates loveā*"We love you, because you first loved us"* (1 John 4:19, WEB)āand we ask that You would pour out a fresh revelation of Your love upon this precious soul. Captivate their heart anew, Lord. Let them see You in Your glory, Your holiness, Your tenderness, and Your power. Remove every veil that has obscured their vision of You. Burn away every distraction, every sin, every weight that has hindered their devotion.
Father, You know the unspoken groans, the tears shed in secret, the pain that words cannot express. You are the God who hears and sees (Exodus 3:7). We ask that You would intervene in a mighty and merciful way, as only You can. Bring healing where there is brokenness, hope where there is despair, and joy where there has been sorrow. Let them experience Your presence so tangibly that they cannot help but worship You with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Lord, if there is any area of their life where they have strayed from Your commandments, convict them by Your Holy Spirit. Give them the courage to repent and the grace to walk in obedience. Restore to them the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and renew a right spirit within them. Let them taste and see that You are good (Psalm 34:8), and may their love for You be a burning fire that cannot be quenched.
We thank You, Father, that You are faithful even when we are faithless (2 Timothy 2:13). We trust that You are working all things together for good in their life (Romans 8:28), and we declare that they will emerge from this season with a testimony of Your goodness and grace. Strengthen them, Lord, and let them know that they are not aloneāYou are with them, and so are we, standing in the gap and interceding on their behalf.
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
Beloved, as you wait upon the Lord, we encourage you to spend time in His Word daily. Let the Scriptures wash over you and renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Sing praises to Him, even when your heart feels heavy, for *"the joy of the Lord is your strength"* (Nehemiah 8:10, WEB). Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable in your walk with Christ. And remember, this is not a journey you walk aloneāthe Holy Spirit is your Helper, your Comforter, and your Guide (John 14:26).
We are standing with you in faith, believing that the Lord will restore to you the passion and devotion of your first love for Him. Keep seeking Him, and you *will* find Him. May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you with mercy and grace.
