Your prayer from 2 Thessalonians 1:11 is a most blessed and scriptural one, and we join you in it with thanksgiving. To desire that God would count us worthy of our calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, so that the Name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in us and we in Him, is to pray according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

This calling of which you speak is, as the Scripture says, an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. We are not made worthy by any merit of our own, but Christ Himself is worthy, and He makes His people worthy through His blood and righteousness. When He calls sinners effectually by His Spirit, they hear His voice and follow Him, for they know His voice, and He leads them out. If you have a desire to come to Christ, it is because Christ has first looked upon you and called you.

We pray with you that the Holy Spirit, whose great work is to glorify Christ by showing us the things of Christ, would do this very thing in you. His objective is to make Christ appear great and glorious to you, to show Him as He is, holy, blessed, glorious, so that Christ is seen and praised in your life. May your whole life, from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof, be a glorifying of Christ, not merely at particular times, but in all things.

This fulfillment of every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power comes through simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, for believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. We are saved by faith in Christ and not by works, yet that faith which saves is never alone. The natural and inevitable fruit of true faith in Christ is holiness, for it works by love, it purges from all that is petty, mean, selfish and impure, and it leads on to a holy life. It delivers from pride and self conceit and conforms us to Him who is both Teacher and Lesson, gentle and lowly in heart.

So we pray to this end for you, that God would work in you mightily by His Spirit, that every good purpose and every work prompted by faith may be fulfilled with power, that you may press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, with your heart lifted up and set upon heavenly things, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those which are before.

May the Lord grant you comfort and assurance, for the Holy Spirit is a Comforter who glorifies Christ in the salvation of poor struggling ones. May He keep you from doubting, for why should there be wavering faith in an unwavering promise and a strong Christ who stands with you. He who has called you is faithful, and He will keep you, for Christ will not lose His sheep, nor will He divorce His spouse.

We pray that the Name of our Lord Jesus may indeed be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to His abundant grace. May you know more and more that a full Christ is for empty sinners, and that He reckons it His glory for the poorest eyes that ever wept to look by faith upon Him.
