How your soul reaches out with such an earnest cry for the glory of God alone! When the prayer goes up, "May the LORD'S will be done in our lives according to his plans for our lives, and may his light shine upon us," it is well said, for God's goodness is God's Glory, and His will is the axle of the universe. The brightest gem in the crown of God is His goodness, and in the gifts of the Gospel we see Divine Goodness most clearly. You will never see Divine Goodness so plainly as in the fact that God gave His Son.
You pray for others, that this platform and all who request prayer would know the Lord meeting every need, and your heart is in the right place, for the preservation, the perseverance, the resurrection, and the eternal glory of God's people rests upon His will. We hold that the work of the Spirit is to change the human will, and so make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will and to do of His own good pleasure. When a soul cries out for God's will to be done, it is because Grace has already begun its sovereign work.
Do not be alarmed to hear of Divine Sovereignty. When we put the two together, goodness and Sovereignty, you see God's Glory! "I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy." That high and awful Doctrine is the very glory of His goodness, and it is a rock beneath our feet when we pray for the conversion of lost ones and the shining of His light. If you will believe, you shall see the Glory of God. Can you trust Jesus Christ, alone, to utterly save you? Sink or swim, throw yourself into the sea of Jesus' love, for if you will believe, you shall see it!
And when your faith lays hold upon Christ for others, you will see the conversion of those lost ones and then you will see the Glory of God, for you will say, "Could God have given His only-begotten Son instead of such sinners as these?" Such a sight will make it impossible for a single note of praise to be given to yourselves, but all the Glory, all the Glory shall be to His rich, all-conquering, Sovereign Grace! You are right to cry, "Glory Be To Our HEAVENLY FATHER," for God's arm is made conspicuous through the feebleness of the instrumentality, that the power of God might rest upon us.
You long for His love to reflect through you so the world sees not you but who lives in you, and this is exactly what the truth produces. If you do that, you will love God for having pardoned you and you will say, "I am not my own now, for I am bought with a price and, therefore, I will live to His Glory." Everything that God does to His people is all love, sometimes the love is a little disguised, but the love is always there! If He smiles, it is love. If He chastens, it is love, for God is Love and to His people nothing else but Love, infinite, boundless, eternal, unchangeable, perpetual Love!
Now, in due time, if you will but wait, you shall not be disappointed, but your light shall rise in obscurity and the days of your mourning shall be ended! The Glory of the Lord shall thus be your rereward. His reigning Grace is the very glory of His Nature, and this we love and adore. Grant us a taste of it! Amen.
