Zedekiah

Humble Servant of All
“But where can wisdom be found?
And where is the place of understanding?
“Man does not know its value,
Nor is it found in the land of the living.
“The deep says, ‘It is not in me’;
And the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
“Pure gold cannot be given in exchange for it,
Nor can silver be weighed as its price.
“It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir,
In precious onyx, or sapphire.
“Gold or glass cannot equal it,
Nor can it be exchanged for articles of fine gold.
“Coral and crystal are not to be mentioned;
And the acquisition of wisdom is above that of pearls.
“The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it,
Nor can it be valued in pure gold.
“Where then does wisdom come from?
And where is the place of understanding?
“Thus it is hidden from the eyes of all living
And concealed from the birds of the sky.
“Abaddon and Death say,
‘With our ears we have heard a report of it.’
“God understands its way,
And He knows its place.
“For He looks to the ends of the earth
And sees everything under the heavens.
“When He imparted weight to the wind
And meted out the waters by measure,
When He set a limit for the rain
And a course for the thunderbolt,
Then He saw it and declared it;
He established it and also searched it out.
“And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
And to depart from evil is understanding.’”
— Job 28:12-28

We thank you for sharing this profound passage from Job 28:12-28 and we rejoice with you in the beauty of this truth. We are reminded together that wisdom cannot be mined like gold or bought like pearls, it cannot be found in the deep or in the sea, and no amount of wealth or searching in the land of the living can obtain it. As you quoted, God understands its way, and He knows its place, for He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens, Job 28:23-24. And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding, Job 28:28.

We find great comfort that this wisdom is not hidden from us when we seek the Lord Himself. We are taught that The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding, Proverbs 9:10, and that Yahweh gives wisdom, Proverbs 2:6. When we lack wisdom we are invited to ask Him directly, for If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We see that ultimate wisdom is not an idea or a principle alone, but a Person, for in Christ are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden, Colossians 2:3, and Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God, 1 Corinthians 1:24.

We notice your request shares this wonderful scripture but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently share why His name matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and to this true wisdom, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. To fear the Lord and to depart from evil is made possible because Jesus bore our sins and reconciles us to God, so that we can walk in wisdom and understanding by His grace through faith in Him.

We pray together with you now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, thanking You that You are the source of all wisdom and understanding. We ask that You would deepen in us a true fear of You, a reverence and love that turns from evil and seeks Your will. Pour out Your wisdom upon ### and upon all of us who are hungry to know You more, guide our steps, purify our hearts, and help us to depart from every evil way. Teach us to treasure Your Word above gold and pearls, and to find in Christ the wisdom we could never earn or buy. Draw each of us closer to Jesus, that we may know Him as Savior and Lord, and walk in the understanding that comes from abiding in Him. We ask this together in Jesus name, amen.

Gilbert, thank you for taking time to share that passage from Job. The way it describes searching everywhere for wisdom and finding it beyond any price is striking, and we appreciate you bringing it to us.

What stood out to us is the quiet ending you highlighted, that true wisdom is found in reverence for the Lord and turning away from what harms. It is not something we dig up or purchase, but something God graciously shows us as we walk with Him. In our experience that often looks less like getting a sudden answer to every question and more like learning to see a situation from His perspective, one step at a time.

If you are in a season of seeking direction, we have found it helps to narrow the focus. You might choose one decision or concern that feels heaviest right now and bring that one thing to God each day in a simple, honest prayer, asking for clarity for today. It can also help to share that burden with one trusted believer or pastor who knows you and can listen and pray with you consistently.

We are praying for you as you seek Him.

Father, thank You for ### and for his desire to find wisdom in You. Give him quiet confidence that You see him and know his path. Grant him clear understanding for the next step he needs to take and peace as he trusts You. Lead him day by day in Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

The portion of Job which you have sent is among the most searching in all Scripture, and I am glad you have laid it upon our hearts. Man digs for gold and precious stones, he weighs silver and counts fine gold, yet wisdom is not found in the land of the living. The deep says, It is not in me, and the sea says, It is not with me. Coral and crystal are not to be mentioned beside it, neither can it be bought for gold of Ophir. Where then shall wisdom be found, and where is the place of understanding.

The answer is given by Him who alone understands its way and knows its place, for He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When He imparted weight to the wind and meted out the waters by measure, when He set a limit for the rain and a course for the thunderbolt, then He saw wisdom and declared it, He established it and searched it out. And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.

Here is the sum of the matter. The way of God is far above our understanding. The most learned among men, our great divines and philosophers, are but fools compared with the wisdom of the Omniscient. We cannot trace His providence nor fathom His designs, but we may know this, that the truly wise man is he who fears the Lord. This is not the slavish fear which brings torment and bondage, from which the true believer is free, but that filial and holy fear which makes a man afraid of sinning against God, afraid of grieving his Father, afraid of departing from the path of holiness. Happy is the man that feareth alway, for this fear keeps him humble, watchful and near to Christ.

Remember also that salvation is of the Lord, in its planning, in its execution, in its sustaining and in its perfecting. Wisdom therefore is not to be found in our own searching, but in coming to Him who is made unto us wisdom and righteousness. To fear the Lord is to trust His Son, to bow before His cross, to receive His grace, and then to depart from evil as one whom grace has taught to live soberly and godly in this present world.

My prayer for you, ###, is that the Lord will give you this wisdom which gold cannot buy. May He teach you to fear Him with a holy reverence, to love His Word, to turn from every evil way, and to find in Christ Jesus all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. May the Holy Spirit bless this meditation to your heart, and make you wise unto salvation, and keep you walking in the way of holiness until you see Him face to face.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The passage you have shared from Job speaks truly and deeply, and I thank you for bringing it before the church so that we may consider it together.

Job shows that wisdom is not found in the deep or the sea, and it cannot be bought with gold of Ophir, with onyx or sapphire, with coral or pearls. Men search the earth for treasure, they weigh out silver and fine gold, yet wisdom remains hidden from all living. Only God understands its way and knows its place, for He looks to the ends of the earth and sees all under heaven, He gives weight to the wind and measure to the waters, and He establishes all things by His counsel.

Then the word comes to us, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. This is the same truth the Scriptures teach elsewhere, that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Nothing makes a person so wise as virtue, and nothing makes a person so foolish as wickedness. Virtue is the spring and root of prudence. It makes a person thankful, fair minded, merciful, gentle and sincere. Wickedness, with its deceit and pride and unthankfulness, darkens the mind and leads astray. When a person turns from God in haughtiness, he falls into folly, and his soul loses its soundness.

Do not think then that wisdom is only cleverness or learning. The treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ, and He alone gives them. They are not received by argument alone, but by faith, by a life that fears God and turns away from evil. To fear God is to love what He loves and to hate what He hates, to cast out deceit and to walk in what is good.

So I pray for you, ###, that the Lord who sees all things will fill you with spiritual wisdom and understanding, that you may walk worthily before Him and bear fruit in every good work. May He teach you to fear Him more and more, to depart from evil, and to seek Christ in whom all wisdom dwells. May He keep you from the folly that comes from pride and sin, and make you rich in the full assurance that comes through faith and love.

May God grant you a heart that seeks Him first, and in seeking Him, may you find true wisdom which is better than gold and more precious than pearls.

Dear Lord Jesus why have I laid in darkness. Why have I experienced many a curse. Why do I feel brainwashed. I awake with no energy. I am surrounded by ghouls that lust after me. Where is my armor or the sword of the spirit? I rest in my bed like it is a tomb. My body resembles a corpse and...
