Gifts

We hear your heart’s longing to discover the gifts God has placed within you, and we stand with you in seeking His wisdom and revelation. The quietness of your life right now does not mean God is silent, He sees you, knows you, and has already equipped you with purpose. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 4:10, "As each one has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms." Your gifts are not for your glory, but for His, and they are meant to be used in service to others, even if your circle feels small right now.

Isolation can make it difficult to recognize how God is working through you, but remember, Jesus Himself often withdrew to lonely places to pray and be with the Father (Luke 5:16). Your solitude may be a season of preparation, where God is shaping your heart to rely fully on Him before He reveals how He wants to use you. We encourage you to spend time in prayer and Scripture, asking the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the ways He has already gifted you, whether in encouragement, service, teaching, hospitality, or another area. Romans 12:6-8 reminds us, "Having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, if prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith; or service, let us give ourselves to service; or he who teaches, to his teaching; or he who exhorts, to his exhorting; he who gives, let him do it with liberality; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness."

We also want to gently address the pain of being disconnected from family and friends. God designed us for community, and while your current circumstances may feel heavy, we pray He would bring godly relationships into your life, people who will walk alongside you, encourage you, and help you discern your gifts. Proverbs 13:20 says, "Walk with wise men, and you will become wise; but the companion of fools suffers harm." Seek out a local church or Christian fellowship where you can grow and serve, even if it feels intimidating at first. Your gifts are needed, and God will use them in ways you cannot yet imagine.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our dear brother/sister, asking that You would reveal the gifts You have placed within them. Lord, Your Word says that every good and perfect gift comes from You (James 1:17), and we trust that You have uniquely equipped them for Your purposes. Open their eyes to see how You are already at work in their life. Give them courage to step out in faith, even in small ways, to use what You’ve given them. Father, we also ask that You would heal any loneliness or hurt in their heart. Surround them with godly community, people who will love them, speak truth to them, and help them grow in You. Lead them to a church family where they can serve and be served, where their gifts can flourish. Holy Spirit, stir within them a hunger to know You more deeply and to walk in the fullness of what You have for them. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

Remember, your worth is not defined by your relationships or the recognition of others, but by the fact that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). God has a plan for you, and He will reveal it in His perfect timing. Keep seeking Him, and He will not leave you without direction. If you feel led, consider journaling your prayers and any promptings you sense from the Holy Spirit, sometimes God speaks in quiet ways that we might otherwise miss. You are not forgotten, and your gifts matter.

I don't have any friends, either. I pray that God reveals the gifts he has given to you and that you find good friends, amen!

We hear how much you want to know the gifts God has given you, and we also hear the loneliness in not having family or friends close by right now. It makes sense you would want clarity about how God made you and how He wants to use you.

One thing we have found helpful is that gifts often become clearer over time and in community, not all at once. They show themselves as we stay close to the Lord in prayer and Scripture and as we step out in small ways to love and serve others. The fruit of a life with Christ, like love and faithfulness, is actually the truer mark of growth than any particular gift, and both fruit and gifts grow like training over a long season, not by trying hard for a moment.

Because gifts are meant to build up others, they are hard to see in isolation. A gentle next step could be to connect with a local church family if you are able, even just to attend worship regularly and let a pastor know you are wanting to understand your gifts and find a small place to serve. Serving alongside others, even in a quiet, behind the scenes way, often reveals where God has equipped you as others affirm it too.

We are praying for you.

Father, thank You for this dear child of Yours and for the gifts You have already placed within them. Draw them close to You, ease their loneliness, and lead them into fellowship where they are known and encouraged. Show them step by step how You have made them to serve and give them wisdom to walk in it. In Jesus name, amen.

Your desire that God would reveal the gifts He has given you is a longing which He Himself delights to answer, for every good gift comes down from the Father of lights and He would have you know and use what He has entrusted to you.

There is one Gift which includes all other gifts beside, and that is Christ Himself. Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift. He did not spare His only Son, but gave Him for a world undone, and freely with that Blessed One He gives us all things. Consider first that you have this Gift if you have believed in Jesus Christ whom God has sent. To become His follower and disciple, to trust Him and imitate Him, is the beginning of all true knowledge of what else God has placed within you. For gifts are good, but Grace is better, and the most excellent way is love. You may seek spiritual gifts, gifts which the Spirit of God bestows to be used in the Church of Christ to the glory of God, yet above all seek Grace, and the greatest Grace which is love to God and love to your fellow men. Gifts without Grace may puff up, for we have all a tendency to swell and grow great simply because God has given us more than other people, whereas that only makes us greater debtors. But Grace keeps the heart low and makes the gift useful. Many a man lying upon a sickbed has found comfort in the Grace which God has given him, but there never was one who found comfort in his gifts alone. Therefore pray not only, Lord, show me my gifts, but Lord, give me Grace to use them humbly and cheerfully for Your glory, and give me love, for love never fails.

You tell us also that you do not speak to your family and have no friends, and this loneliness is a heavy burden. Our Savior knows this sorrow well. He said, ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone, and He cried, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me. He has trodden the path of loneliness that He might be a companion to the lonely. If you lament your loneliness, cure it by seeking heavenly company. The words of God's Book, made living to you by the Spirit, shall be to your mind as angels, and God Himself shall have fellowship with you. He is a child of God who cannot live happily in his Father's house unless he often sees his Father's face, speaks with Him and hears His voice in return. You may go to Him as children come to a father, with loving confidence, and declare your ways to Him. Say to Him, I have declared my ways and You heard me, teach me Your statutes. If you cannot find your way into the heart of any Truth of God, the Spirit of God has the clue to it, so ask Him to guide you into it. And as God draws near to you, He will also lead you toward His people, for we are made to serve Him together and to give, each in his measure, in love to the church.

Let us pray for you now.

Our Father and Lord Jesus Christ, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope through Grace, we thank You for this soul who seeks to know Your hand in his life. Reveal to him the gifts You have given, not that he may be proud, but that he may consecrate spirit, soul and body to You. Give him Grace preferred above gifts, and above all give him love, that whatever he does may be done heartily as unto You. Show him Christ, Your unspeakable gift, perfect Man and glorious God, given for sinners, and let him find in Him the comfort of sonship. In his loneliness, draw near. Let him know he is not alone, for You have said You will never leave nor forsake Your own. Teach him Your statutes, guide him into all Truth by Your Spirit, and in Your mercy restore to him such fellowship as is according to Your will, and knit him to a faithful people where he may use what You have given for Your glory. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our rest and our hope. Amen.
