Getting leave from job for my engagement

We hear your request and understand the importance of this season in your life as you prepare for engagement, a step toward the sacred covenant of marriage. The Bible tells us, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24 WEB). Marriage is a holy institution designed by God, and it is right to honor this milestone with intentionality and prayer.

However, we must also consider the principles of work and responsibility. Scripture reminds us, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23 WEB). While your employer may be making it difficult to take leave, we encourage you to approach this situation with wisdom, humility, and a spirit of cooperation. Have you considered speaking with your supervisor or HR department to explain the significance of this time and explore possible compromises, such as adjusting your schedule or using accrued leave?

We also want to gently remind you that engagement is a season of preparation, not just for the celebration, but for the lifelong commitment ahead. Are you and your future spouse aligning your lives with God’s design for marriage? Are you both rooted in faith, seeking His will, and building your relationship on the foundation of Christ? We pray that this time is marked by godly counsel, prayer, and a shared commitment to honoring the Lord in your union.

Let us lift this situation to the Father in prayer:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for the gift of marriage and the journey [] is on toward this sacred covenant. Lord, we ask for Your favor in this situation regarding time off from work. Soften the hearts of those in authority, and grant [] wisdom in how to approach this request with grace and integrity. May this season of engagement be one of spiritual growth, unity, and preparation for a marriage that glorifies You. Guide [] and their future spouse in every decision, and let Your will be done in their lives. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, who makes all things possible. Amen."

If there are other concerns or challenges surrounding this engagement, such as doubts, family opposition, or spiritual alignment, we encourage you to bring those before the Lord as well. Marriage is a beautiful reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33 WEB), and it is worth building on the solid rock of His Word. If you or your future spouse are not yet believers in Jesus Christ, we urge you to seek Him first, for "unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain" (Psalm 127:1 WEB). Salvation through faith in Jesus is the foundation for any godly marriage, and we would be honored to pray with you about this as well.

We’ve been thinking about your situation, how exciting and important an engagement season is, and how disheartening it must feel when the door at work seems closed just when you need it to open. You’re not being difficult for wanting a short stretch of time to honor this significant step; that’s a healthy instinct. Sometimes workplaces get rigid because of deadlines or staffing gaps, and it can feel deeply unfair when it happens to collide with one of the most memorable stretches of your life.

A few practical things come to mind that might help. First, if you haven’t already, it can be worth putting your request in writing, simply stating the dates and your willingness to coordinate with any coverage plan they’d need. Even a brief note can shift a conversation away from knee-jerk refusal toward a solution. Second, if there’s a supervisor or HR person you haven’t spoken with directly, a calm, face-to-face conversation, letting them know how seriously you take your work and how much this brief window means, can sometimes soften a blanket policy. And if the answer remains no, it may help to reframe: you can trust God with a smaller window of leave, or even a postponed celebration, without losing the meaning of the moment.

We’re praying that the One who holds every detail of your life will make a way, either by opening this door at work or by giving you steady peace and a creative alternative you haven’t yet seen.

Father, thank you for this person and the new season ahead. We ask you to grant them favor in the eyes of those who decide, and to quiet any anxiety rising in their heart. Give them wisdom and respectful words, and, whatever the outcome, keep their spirit anchored in your faithful care. In Jesus’ name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The Lord who sustained Job under the loss of all things can as surely uphold you in this trying matter of a withheld leave. Has He not said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you? And He never has left nor forsaken any believer. Though your employer seems to frown and the way appears blocked, do not charge God foolishly nor speak in an unworthy manner.

In all this, sin not by unbelieving speeches; but fall down, as it were, and worship, laying your request openly before the throne of grace. I am quite sure that if you cast this burden upon Him with childlike confidence, His compulsion will be upon the heart of those in authority, for the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord. Keep to this: our engagement, like the steps of the Israelites eating the Passover with loins girt and staves in hand, marks us as pilgrims. Let the occasion be hallowed by prayer, not only for your own desire but for your friends and even those who oppose your request.

Remember how the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Your longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The night shall not hang its darkness forever over our souls; the sun shall yet arise with healing beneath His wings. Go, then, and seek the Lord with fresh earnestness.

Leave the matter entirely in His hands, for His way is best. And I do not doubt that He who saw your intended marriage as a holy covenant will open the door at the appointed hour, that you may go forth with thanksgiving and find your bow renewed in your hand, your glory fresh in you through His gracious provision.

You seek leave from your labor to celebrate an engagement, and you meet with closed doors. This is a small trial, yet it troubles your heart. Consider it an occasion to shore up patience. Do not murmur against those in authority over you, for all authority comes from God, but commit your cause to Him with thanksgiving. He who made the human race male and female and ordained that a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife intends honor upon this estate. Your engagement, a step toward that holy union, is not a trivial thing. Yet if for a season permission is withheld, do not let your spirit be crushed. Endure the delay gladly, bearing this small cross, trusting that the Master will open the door in due time. The greater thing is to cleave to the things of Heaven and not to be troubled when earthly plans are crossed. Do all you can with diligence, and then leave the outcome with God, who proves the heart. When He grants the leave, give thanks. If He permits the trial to continue, give thanks still, knowing that such testing works steadfastness in you. Let your soul be kept in peace, free from anxiety, as one who belongs to the city above.
