Future at my workplace or somewhere else

I have been at my current occupation as an Auditor for 10 years now. I prayed for this job when I was in desperate need of a job years ago, nevertheless since getting this job I have been passed over for promotion to friends and relatives of upper management multiple times. I consistently work hard and produce above the average number of audits required at my position. When talking to upper management they tell me that “I am there, but not quite there,” “I know you are working out of your class, but take it as development,” and "I'm looking for the intangibles, I guess the it factor." All the while, they are giving promotions to their friends and family who supposedly have these "intangibles" and "it factor." I know nepotism is a part of most workplace environments even though it shouldn’t be. Currently I am working above my pay grade without any hope of a promotion or any movement while I see the friends and family of upper management gain the benefits of knowing someone rather than putting in the work and understanding the work itself.

I request that either things change at my workplace or I find work somewhere else because at this point I am being taken advantage of.
