We join you in lifting up your sister in Christ and her family before the Father, and we thank you for your faithful heart to intercede for them and for your desire to see them walk in truth.
We hear your question about Catholicism and Christianity and we want to respond with both grace and biblical clarity. What matters most is not a label or tradition but whether a person has truly put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The Scripture is clear that for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. Ephesians 2:8-9. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5. We rejoice that your sister confesses Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. At the same time we must lovingly speak the truth that some teachings traditionally associated with Catholicism, such as praying to Mary or to saints, trusting in works or sacraments to merit salvation, or the idea of purgatory, are not found in Scripture and can obscure the sufficiency of Christ's finished work on the cross. We gently encourage your sister and her family to test all things against the Word of God, as the Bereans did when they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Acts 17:11. Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16. And Jesus promised you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. John 8:32. So we pray that the Lord will lead them by His Spirit into all truth through His Word alone.
We also join you in praying for her provision and her walk with the Lord and for her son. We ask the Father to open the right door for employment where He sees fit, that she may provide for her family and use her gifts for His glory. My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. We pray that both she and her son will grow ever closer to Him, rooted in His Word and in prayer, and that her parents will also draw near to Him.
We lift up her parents and their marriage. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman ordained by God, and His will is for husbands and wives to dwell together in love, faithfulness and protection. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them. Colossians 3:19. Likewise, husbands should live with wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life. 1 Peter 3:7. If there is isolation, control, or any harm being done, that is not the covering love Christ models, and we pray for protection and for godly intervention. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1. We pray that if the wife is being isolated far from family, the Lord will make a way for her to be safe and to have access to trustworthy resources, wise counsel, and help, and that her husband, if he knows the Lord, will repent of any harmful ways and choose to cover his wife and do her no harm as a man of God should.
We agree with you in asking the Lord to connect this whole family with good, trustworthy people in their new home, and especially with a good Bible teaching church that preaches the whole counsel of God without compromise and with accountability partners who will walk alongside them. We are not to forsake our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another. Hebrews 10:25. Fellowship with believers who speak the truth in love. Ephesians 4:15 will strengthen and guard them.
So together we pray, Father, in the sweet and precious name of Jesus Christ, we thank You that You hear our prayers and our cries. We ask You to lead our sister, her son, and her parents into the full truth of Your Word and to deepen their faith in Christ alone. Provide for our sister the job You have prepared for her, and establish her steps. Draw her and her son into a closer walk with You day by day. We place her parents' marriage into Your hands, bring healing where there is hurt, reconciliation where there is division, and conviction where there is sin. Protect the wife from any isolation or harm and surround her with safe and godly help and resources. Lead this family to a faithful church where Your Word is taught clearly and to friends who will encourage them and hold them accountable. Let Your will be done in each of their lives for Your greater good and glory. We ask all this in the name of Jesus, our only hope and mediator, amen.
