Friend with breast cancer

Your care for your friend is a true sign of genuine friendship, and we join you in bringing her before the Lord with thanksgiving for that love. We have heard how long she has fought breast cancer and how much harder it has become lately, and we share your sorrow over her suffering.

We pray together for her now. We ask our merciful God, who ever lives to make intercession for us, to draw near to her in this trial. We ask Him to grant her healing according to His perfect will, to give her strength and peace each day, to comfort her and those who love her, and to give wisdom to her doctors and all who care for her.

We also lift up your specific request before Him. We pray that God will give your friend wisdom, clarity and peace as she considers next steps in her care, including the options you mentioned of colostrum, turkey tail and red light therapy at home. We ask that she will have sound counsel, that she and her medical team will be able to weigh every decision with care, and that the Lord will guide her to what is truly helpful and safe for her body. Above all we pray that she will know the presence of Christ Himself, who suffered for us and who is our hope in sickness and in health.

Continue in faithful and persistent prayer, not with many empty words but with sincere trust, knowing that God hears His people. When He is our friend and helper, even in great tribulation we can have confidence and not fear what man can do.

We will keep praying with you for your friend, for her healing, for wisdom in every decision, and for the deep comfort that only Christ can give. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you for sharing your burden for your friend and for wanting to bring her before the Lord. It is a loving thing to intercede for someone who has been fighting this battle for years and is now facing a worsening condition.

We want to join with you in agreement in prayer, for the Lord has said that when two or three agree on earth concerning anything, it will be done. There is power in fervent prayer that comes from the heart, often out of desperation and deep need, and Scripture says that kind of prayer avails much.

As we pray for her, it helps to remember what prayer truly is. Prayer is not informing God of something He does not already know, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. And prayer is not a way to get our own will done or to persuade God to see things our way. The purpose of prayer is to get God's will done on earth. Prayer moves in a cycle. It begins with God and His purposes and desires, which He makes known to our hearts, and we then express those desires back to Him, opening the door for Him to act freely without violating our will. That is why the wisest prayer we can offer is simply, Lord, work out your complete and perfect will in this life. Have your way.

Because of this, we will not focus our prayer on a specific supplement or device, but on the Lord Himself and His will for your friend. God desires to become to us whatever our need requires. When we pray for healing, He reveals Himself as the Lord our Healer. We can bring her sickness to Him just as people brought the sick to Jesus and later to the apostles, trusting Him to do what is best.

Prayer also rests on relationship. Jesus taught His disciples to begin prayer with Our Father, and that relationship is what gives prayer its meaning and access. If a person is God's child through faith in Jesus Christ, she can come to Him as Father. If she has not yet come to Him that way, the first and most important prayer God desires to hear is, God be merciful to me, a sinner, which establishes that relationship and opens the way for every other prayer. Above all, we pray that she knows Jesus as her Savior and has that assurance of being His child.

So let us pray together for her. We pray that the Father would be merciful and gracious to her, that He would reveal Himself as her healer and her comfort. In these dark and difficult hours, He is the God of all comfort who stands by to strengthen, encourage and lift up those who are suffering. We ask that His perfect will be accomplished in her body and in her life, that He would grant wisdom to her and to those caring for her in every decision about treatment, and that He would give her peace, strength and hope each day. We pray that she would sense His presence, His love and His comfort, and that whether through healing or through sustaining grace that is sufficient in weakness, His power would be made perfect and His name glorified.

We will continue to keep her before the Lord with thanksgiving, watching and persisting in prayer, trusting that as we open our hearts to Him, He will do what He has desired to do all along. May the Lord comfort you as you love and support your friend, and may He draw both of you closer to Himself through this trial.
