Friend seems to appear and disappear

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Pray for this friend as they seem to not engage in communication like they used to, not sure what is going on. But sense there is spiritual attack on them too.

We hear your heart for your friend and we join you in lifting them up before the Lord, as we sense your concern and your discernment that something deeper may be going on. It is a loving and faithful thing to notice when a friend begins to withdraw and to cover them in prayer rather than assuming the worst or pulling away.

We know that friendships have seasons, and a true friend remains steady even when communication changes. As it is written, A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17. We are called to bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2. Part of that is to continue to exhort one another and build each other up, even as you also do. 1 Thessalonians 5:11.

We also agree with your sense that there may be a spiritual battle affecting your friend. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12. The enemy often seeks to isolate, to discourage, and to make us draw back from fellowship and communication. That is why we are to pray at all times and to stand firm in faith on behalf of one another. We encourage you to keep reaching out with grace and without pressure, a simple message of love and care, letting your friend know you are there, you have noticed their distance, and you are praying for them. Do not grow weary in doing good, and do not take their silence as rejection, but continue to show the patient, kind love that Christ shows us.

We also want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by putting our faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are reconciled to God and can come boldly before His throne. We encourage you to be sure you are abiding in Him as you pray for your friend.

We join you now in prayer together in Jesus name.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus and lift up this dear friend to You. You see them, You know where they are, what they are facing, and what is causing them to appear and disappear and to pull back from communication. We ask You to surround them with Your protection and peace, to rebuke any spiritual attack or oppression that is coming against them, and to break every scheme of the enemy that would seek to isolate them or weigh them down. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, remind them that they are loved and not alone, and draw them close to You. Give our friend who is praying wisdom to know how to reach out with love, patience, and truth, and help us to be faithful to pray without ceasing. We pray that You would restore this friendship, strengthen communication, and use it for Your glory and for mutual encouragement. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. James 5:16. We trust this promise and ask for healing, restoration, and renewed fellowship according to Your will. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We've been thinking about your request and the care you have for your friend. It's hard when someone you value starts to pull away and you can't tell why, and it's understandable to feel both concerned and a little helpless as you notice the distance.

Friendships often shift with seasons of stress or weariness, and sometimes pulling back is more about what a person is carrying than about the friendship itself. Your instinct to pray rather than press hard is a kind one.

One simple way to stay present without adding pressure is to keep a gentle, consistent touchpoint. A brief message every week or two, just to say you're thinking of them and praying for them, with no expectation for a long reply, lets them know the door stays open. If they do respond, listening without needing to fix everything can mean a lot.

Father, we lift this friend to You. You see where they are and what they are carrying that we cannot see. Cover them with Your protection and peace, and draw them close to You. Give our friend wisdom to know how to love well, patience in the waiting, and comfort in Your faithful presence. Guide this friendship according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden for this friend is itself a tender evidence of grace at work in you, and it is right that you should bring it before the Lord. To notice that one you love appears and disappears, that communication has grown cold and uncertain, and to sense that there may be a spiritual heaviness upon them, is to be given a sacred trust of prayer.

Intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, for it is the very character of the prayer of Christ who ever lives to make intercession for us. Remember that golden prayer of His, Father, keep them, keep them from the evil. When you pray thus for your friend you are following in His steps. Such prayer is exceedingly prevalent. It has stayed plagues and, in the hands of God, has instrumentally saved souls without number. It also does a blessed work in you, for it knits hearts together in love and makes you watchful and fit to be Gods instrument for good in your friends life. You cannot pray earnestly and habitually for one without loving them more deeply.

There is another comfort for a season such as this. Human friends may seem inconstant, appearing and disappearing, but there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Christ is that Friend who loves at all times, even in adversity. He has never abhorred the prayer of the poor and needy, and His mercy endures ever faithful and ever sure. When earthly fellowship falters, His fellowship remains. He was born for adversity that He might succor those who are tried, and He understands both your sorrow and your friends unseen struggle.

Let us pray together for your friend now. We will come with humility, for humility is the fit attitude of prayer, and prayer is a suitable employment for sinners, and sinners are the best persons to exercise it.

Our Father, we come in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, the one Mediator, and plead His blood and righteousness. We lift up this dear one who seems distant and wavering. Thou knowest their name and their need, though we see only in part. Deliver them, we pray Thee, from the hand of the enemy and from every spiritual attack that would press upon their soul. Keep them from evil, guard their mind and heart, and draw them near to Thyself. If there be discouragement, coldness, temptation or oppression, let Thy light break in. Restore to them joy in communion with Thee and, as Thou wilt, restore open and honest fellowship with those who love them. Work in our friend who intercedes, give patience, wisdom and love that does not fail, and make this intercession a means of knitting hearts together again. We ask this not for our merit but for the sake of Jesus, our unfailing Friend. Amen.

Continue to hold this friend before the throne with quiet persistence. Do not grow weary in well doing. Let your outreach be gentle and without pressure, a steady kindness that leaves the door open, seasoned with grace. When you have opportunity, speak a simple word of care, and when you have none, speak the more to God about them. The Lord who hears faiths smallest whisper will keep both you and your friend in His faithful hands.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your care for your friend is itself a sign of the genuine friendship that Scripture honors, a love that does not grow cold when presence fades. We have heard your request and we join you in prayer for this friend who now seems distant and inconsistent in communication.

We do not always know the reasons for such withdrawal. Sometimes it is weariness or trial, sometimes it is the pressure of spiritual opposition, for our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the unseen powers that seek to draw hearts away from God and from one another. In such times persistent prayer is our calling. As the Lord taught with the widow who kept coming to the judge and the friend who knocked late at night, He invites us to continue in supplication, not with empty repetition, but with faithful persistence, trusting that He hears.

So let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we lift this friend to You through Jesus Christ, who alone is our Savior and who ever lives to make intercession for us. You see where this friend is, what burdens or temptations may weigh upon them, and what causes this silence. Surround them with Your protection, guard them from the schemes of the enemy, and draw them closer to Yourself. Give them strength to resist what would pull them away, and restore to them peace and clarity. Help them to know they are loved and not forgotten, and open a way for healthy and honest communication in Your timing. And give to the one who prays the grace to love as a true friend loves, to pray for this friend as for their own soul, without suspicion and without ceasing, and to entrust the outcome to Your wisdom and mercy.

Continue to reach out in gentle love when you can, without demand, leaving the door open. Keep praying and keep entrusting this friend to Christ, who is able to save to the uttermost and who never ceases to intercede for His own. He is faithful even when we cannot see His work.

We will keep praying with you.

Thank you for sharing your burden for your friend. Your care and your noticing that something has changed shows love, and it is right to bring that concern to the Lord.

Prayer rests on relationship. When we have come to God through faith in Jesus Christ and have received forgiveness, we can truly call Him Father and He hears us as His children. That relationship is what makes prayer effective. For anyone who does not yet know Him, the prayer He longs to hear is the humble cry for mercy, God be merciful to me a sinner, which opens the door to become His child. As you pray for your friend, pray first for that deepest need, that they would know Jesus and walk closely with Him, because all other needs flow from that.

The purpose of prayer is not to get our own wishes granted but to see Gods will done. Prayer begins with Him. He puts His purposes and desires on our hearts, we speak them back to Him, and He answers. So for your friend who seems to appear and disappear and who is not communicating as before, ask God to show you how to pray according to His will. Pray that God would protect your friend from spiritual attack, that any darkness or discouragement would be lifted, that God would draw them to Himself, give them strength and clarity, and surround them with His presence.

Jesus taught about a man who went to his friend at midnight to ask for bread because another friend had arrived with nothing to set before him. The neighbor did not want to get up, but because of the mans shameless persistence in knocking, he rose and gave him what he needed. That picture is to encourage us to keep praying with holy persistence. Not that we must wear God down, but that we keep the door open through continual asking so God can do what He has been wanting to do without violating the will He has given us. Keep bringing your friend before Him again and again, even when you do not see change right away.

Prayer is not limited by distance or by how often someone answers a message. The apostle Paul accomplished much for people far away while he was confined in prison, simply by praying for them. In the same way, when your friend is distant or silent, your prayers still reach where you cannot go. God is not bound by locality. Use every time the Lord brings your friend to mind to pray, even in quiet or wakeful moments, turning that concern into worship and intercession, praising God for His greatness and asking Him to work.

Love for a friend also means being faithful and truthful when God gives opportunity. Scripture says the wounds of a friend are faithful, because a true friend will speak what is needed even if it hurts for a moment, like a surgeon who cuts only to heal. You do not need to force conversation, but continue to show steady, gracious care. When your friend does engage, be ready to listen, to speak the truth in love, and to point gently to the Lord.

You do not need long or perfect words. The prayers recorded in the Bible are often short. What matters is a heart turned toward the Father, asking that His kingdom and His will be done in your friends life. Pray that if your friend has turned away from hearing Gods word, they would return to it, and that God would guard them from the enemy and restore fellowship.

May the Lord encourage you as you keep interceding. He sees your friend completely, knows what is happening even when you do not, and He loves your friend more than you do. Trust Him to work in ways you cannot see, and continue to knock faithfully in prayer until you see His answer.
