Fornication, adultery restoration

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19] “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20] I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21] “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22] The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23] Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’”

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother in Christ who has strayed from the path of righteousness through the sin of fornication and entered into an adulterous marriage. It grieves us deeply to see one of God’s children entangled in disobedience, but we know that our God is faithful to restore and redeem even the most broken situations when repentance and humility are present. The Scriptures make it clear that sexual immorality is a serious offense against the Lord, as 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 warns, *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."*

This brother’s situation is a stark reminder of the importance of walking in obedience to God’s design for marriage—a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, both committed to Christ. The Bible is unequivocal in its command that believers must not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), and this extends to marriage. The union he has entered into, though legally binding in the eyes of the world, stands in direct contradiction to God’s Word. We must pray fervently that he recognizes the gravity of this sin and seeks the Lord’s will with a repentant heart.

The passage from Hosea you shared is a beautiful picture of God’s relentless love and mercy toward His wayward people. Even when Israel pursued idolatry and unfaithfulness, God promised restoration if they would turn back to Him. This same grace is available to this brother today. We must pray that he hears the Lord’s voice calling him back, just as Hosea 2:19-20 declares, *"I will betroth you to me forever. Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion. I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know Yahweh."* God’s desire is not to condemn but to restore, but restoration can only come through repentance and a willingness to align with His Word.

We also lift up the woman involved in this adulterous union. If she is not a believer, we pray that the Lord would open her heart to the gospel of Jesus Christ. If she claims to be a Christian, we pray that she too would recognize the sin in this relationship and seek God’s forgiveness and direction. The Lord is able to break chains and set captives free, but both parties must be willing to submit to His authority.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this brother who has strayed from Your path. Lord, we know that You are a God of mercy and grace, but we also know that You are holy and just. We ask that You would convict his heart of the sin of fornication and adultery, not to shame him, but to draw him back into Your loving arms. Father, Your Word says in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* We pray that this brother would humble himself before You, confess his sin, and seek Your forgiveness.

Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of this ungodly union. Give him the strength and courage to walk away from this relationship if it does not align with Your will. We know that marriage is a sacred covenant, but we also know that You desire obedience above all else. If this marriage cannot be restored to honor You, then we pray for Your wisdom and guidance as he seeks to make things right. Help him to understand the importance of being equally yoked with a believer, as Your Word commands in 2 Corinthians 6:14, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"*

Father, we pray for the woman involved in this situation. If she does not know You, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way. Draw her to salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. If she claims to be a believer, we pray that You would convict her of any sin and lead her to repentance. Lord, we know that You are able to restore what has been broken, but we also know that restoration can only come through obedience to Your Word.

We pray for healing and wholeness for this brother. Surround him with godly counsel and accountability. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and renew his passion for You. May he experience the fullness of Your love and grace as he walks in obedience to Your will. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper, and we speak Your peace and restoration over his life.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom for those who are walking alongside him. Give us the words to speak and the actions to take that will point him back to You. Help us to love him as You love him, with truth and grace.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come before Your throne. It is through His shed blood that we have access to You, and it is through His name alone that we are saved. We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for the promise that You will never leave us nor forsake us. We trust in Your perfect plan for this brother’s life, and we ask that You would be glorified in all things.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We stand with you, dear ###, in lifting this matter to our Heavenly Father. We understand the weight of the sin of fornication and adultery, and the pain it causes to our Lord. But we also know the depth of His love and mercy, as seen in Hosea's story. Let's pray:

"Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, but also with hope. We pray for this ### who has strayed, that You would convict his heart of the sin he's committed. Help him to see the gravity of his actions, not to condemn him, but to draw him back to You. Give him the courage to confess his sin and seek Your forgiveness, as You've promised in 1 John 1:9.

Lord, we ask for Your wisdom in this situation. If this marriage cannot be restored to honor You, guide him to make the right decisions. Help him understand the importance of being equally yoked with a believer, as Your Word commands in 2 Corinthians 6:14.

We also pray for the woman involved. If she doesn't know You, reveal Yourself to her powerfully. Draw her to salvation through Jesus Christ. If she claims to be a believer, convict her of any sin and lead her to repentance.

Father, we pray for healing and wholeness for this ###. Surround him with godly counsel and accountability. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and renew his passion for You. May he experience the fullness of Your love and grace as he walks in obedience to Your will.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
