Forgiveness

We have read your request for forgiveness and for healing from relationship misunderstandings and loneliness and we are joining together to bring this before the Lord in Jesus' name.

We understand how heavy it can feel to carry a need for forgiveness while also feeling misunderstood and alone. Scripture shows us that God is near to those who seek Him with a humble heart. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. And we are also called to extend that same forgiveness to others, even when there has been hurt or confusion, Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32. Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do Colossians 3:13. Unforgiveness and bitterness can keep a wound open, but forgiveness through Christ brings healing and freedom.

We also hear your desire for healing in relationships where misunderstandings have caused distance. God desires peace and reconciliation among His people. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1. With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Ephesians 4:2-3. We encourage you to seek humble and honest communication, to speak the truth in love, and to be quick to listen and slow to speak, trusting the Lord to soften hearts and bring understanding where there has been confusion. If this concerns a romantic relationship, we pray that it would be pursued in a way that honors God, with courtship that seeks a godly marriage between a man and a woman as God designed, fleeing from fornication and keeping the relationship pure before the Lord, for marriage should be held in honor among all Hebrews 13:4.

Your loneliness is also seen by God and we want to remind you that you are not forgotten. God sets the lonely in families Psalm 68:6 and He has promised I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you Hebrews 13:5. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. When we feel isolated, the Lord Himself is our companion, and He also often provides comfort through fellowship with other believers, so we encourage you to stay connected to a faithful local church where you can be encouraged and support others.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive forgiveness and healing. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is in His name that we can boldly bring every need for forgiveness, healing, and companionship to God.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You on behalf of this dear one who is seeking forgiveness and healing. Lord, we ask that You forgive sins as they are confessed before You and cleanse every stain by the blood of Jesus. Grant a heart that also freely forgives those who have caused hurt or misunderstanding, so that no root of bitterness remains. Bring healing to these relationships, Lord, give wisdom, gentleness, and clarity in communication, and restore what has been broken according to Your will. Comfort this lonely heart with Your presence, remind them that You are near and will never forsake them, and provide godly fellowship and community to walk alongside them. Fill the empty places with Your peace and love, and guide every relationship to honor You, pursuing holiness and, where it is a courtship, pursuing marriage that glorifies You. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Carrying misunderstandings in a relationship and feeling lonely at the same time is heavy, and we are glad you reached out for prayer for healing.

We hear your desire for forgiveness and for things to be made right. One insight that helps many people is that forgiveness often has two parts. There is the quiet decision to release the need to get even or to avoid the person completely and to will their good instead. Then there is the slower emotional part, where feelings like resentment, hurt or fear gradually loosen over time. It is normal for the emotions to take longer than the decision, especially if you have been ruminating on what happened.

It can also help to remember that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same. Forgiveness is something you can choose before God in your own heart. Reconciliation is the rebuilding of trust and closeness, and that takes willingness from both people. Sometimes healing comes through a restored relationship and sometimes it comes as peace in your own heart while you wait.

Loneliness tends to pull us away from others just when connection would help most. A simple next step that many find steadying is to not walk through this alone this week, whether that is joining worship with God's people or talking honestly with one trusted friend or pastor who listens well.

Father, we lift our friend to You in the loneliness and the misunderstandings. Bring healing where there is hurt, soften what is tense, and give wisdom for each conversation and decision ahead. Provide companionship and remind them they are not alone. Lead them in Your will and give peace as they trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and that is where all true healing must begin. Your cry for forgiveness, for healing of misunderstandings, and for relief from loneliness has been heard, and it is a tender mercy that you have brought these burdens to the Lord.

First, let us think of forgiveness itself. Scripture says, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions. This is a divine forgiveness, surprising and complete. It is not a forgiveness that must be earned, but one that is freely given to every repenting and believing sinner through Jesus Christ, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. If you tremble under a sense of sin and desire to be right with God, believe the promise for yourself, I believe in the forgiveness of sins. The record of debt is nailed to the Cross, and the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He does not play fast and loose with men. Come to Christ by faith, confessing your sin, and you shall find that there is forgiveness with Him, now, at this moment, however great your past may have been.

With this forgiveness there comes healing. The Scriptures place them in happy conjunction. When Jesus said to the palsied man, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins be forgiven thee, pardon and healing were one. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and even the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life and make the nature other than it was before. When the Lord dwells with His people, the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, for the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings. Seek first the healing of the soul through pardon, and you will find strength to walk in the healing of relationships as God enables you.

In the matter of misunderstandings between you and others, remember that we have in Christ a full and eternal forgiveness, and therefore we are to enter into the joint work of forgiving one another. As God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you, so also forgive. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands. This does not mean that every breach is healed in the same way, but it does mean releasing bitterness, speaking truth in love, and pursuing peace and holiness so far as it depends on you. Bring every relationship under the lordship of Christ, that it may be ordered according to His good design, for He calls us to purity, to truth, and where marriage is concerned, to the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom to discern what reconciliation honors Him, what boundaries are needful, and what words will build up rather than tear down.

For your loneliness, know that the Savior Himself entered into loneliness. He was left alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, yet He could say, I am not alone, because the Father is with me. He knows the sorrow of being forsaken and misunderstood, and He has borne that grief that you might never be truly alone. The believer who is brought into deep soul conflict or quiet isolation is still kept by the presence of the Father. Though friends may fail and misunderstandings may wound, you are not alone if Christ is with you.

Let us pray together.

O gracious Father, with whom there is forgiveness, we come through Jesus Christ Thy Son, who alone is the way of salvation. Forgive our iniquities for His sake, blot out our transgressions, and grant us to know the certainty of pardon. Heal us where we are wounded, and let the healing leaves of Christ minister to our hearts. Give wisdom and grace for every strained relationship, that we may forgive as we have been forgiven, speak the truth in love, and walk in holiness. Where reconciliation is according to Thy will, bring it in Thy time and in Thy way. In our loneliness, draw near as Thou didst to Thy Son in His loneliness, and let us know that Thou art with us. Keep us in Thy fellowship and in the fellowship of Thy people, till healing and pardon have their perfect work. Amen.
