We join with you in this desire to persevere in forgiveness toward all people, and we are encouraged by your heart to obey the Lord in this. Forgiveness is not always easy, especially when wounds are deep or repeated, but it is central to our walk with Christ, for we have been forgiven so much.
The Scripture calls us to this high standard, not in our own strength but in the grace God provides. We are told in Ephesians 4:32 to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And in Colossians 3:13 we are exhorted to bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Jesus taught us the measure of this forgiveness when Peter asked how often he should forgive, and He answered in Matthew 18:21-22, not just seven times but seventy times seven, showing that forgiveness is to be a continual posture of the heart. Our Lord also reminds us in Matthew 6:14-15 that if we forgive men their trespasses, our heavenly Father will also forgive us, but if we do not forgive, we hinder our own fellowship with Him. In Mark 11:25 we are told whenever we stand praying, forgive, if we have anything against anyone, so that our Father who is in heaven may also forgive us our transgressions.
We understand that to forgive no matter what does not mean that what was done was right, nor does it mean we must trust immediately or place ourselves back into harm's way without wisdom. Forgiveness releases the other person to God and releases us from bitterness, while God remains the just judge. As Romans 12:19 says, do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. Perseverance in this will require dependence on the Holy Spirit, for in our flesh we grow weary. We are encouraged in Galatians 6:9 not to be weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we learn there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It was through the shed blood of Jesus on the cross that our own great debt was forgiven when we put our faith in Him, believing that God raised Him from the dead as Romans 10:9 teaches. It is from that well of mercy that we can then pour out forgiveness to others. We ask You to strengthen our dear one with Your Holy Spirit to persevere in forgiveness, even when it is painful and when offenses are repeated. Fill this heart with Your love that covers a multitude of sins as 1 Peter 4:8 teaches, and grant the grace to release every hurt, every disappointment, and every person who has caused pain into Your hands. Help us to remember how much we have been forgiven, and let that remembrance soften our hearts daily. Guard this heart from bitterness and resentment, and instead produce the fruit of tenderheartedness and mercy. Give wisdom to set healthy and biblical boundaries where needed while still walking in true forgiveness, and let perseverance produce maturity and peace. Your longing to persevere in a forgiving spirit is itself a token of grace at work within you, and I thank God for it. For to desire to forgive even as you have been forgiven is to walk in the way of holiness in which the saints are kept by divine power.
Remember whence your own forgiveness flows. The word of the Lord is, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake. It is a divine forgiveness, complete and eternal, not a partial pardon but a blotting out, a forgetting of iniquity for Christ's sake. There is forgiveness with Him, and that forgiveness is full and everlasting. You know something of the hardness of your own heart and the greatness of your need, yet the message stands sure, there is forgiveness now, at this moment, for sinners through the blood of Jesus, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. Having received such a full forgiveness, how shall we not forgive.
The Scripture lays upon those who have tasted this mercy a sweet and solemn duty, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. It is to be as a joint stock of mutual forgiveness among the people of God, forgiving even to seventy times seven, not counting the seven offences and then closing the hand, but continuing to exert that same fulness of forgiving grace which absolved us perfectly at the first. This is not natural to the flesh, and therefore you do well to ask for perseverance therein.
And here is your comfort, that perseverance itself is of the Lord. He hath said, I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. They shall never perish. He giveth not a life which may die again, but an immortal and eternal life, and He will not withdraw His gift. He does not remove His people from the conflict, but He giveth us the victory and provideth a way of escape in temptation. If grace hath truly changed you, you are radically and lastingly changed, and that perseverance will be a perseverance in holiness, in love, in a Christlike readiness to forgive.
I will pray for you that the Lord would keep you in this mind. May He daily set before your eyes the perfect forgiveness you have received, that the sense of it, clear and unquestioned, may soften your heart toward all who offend you. May He strengthen you to act worthy of your privileges as one of the blood royal of heaven, not measuring yourself by what others do, but by what your Father hath done for you. And when memory would stir up bitterness, may the Spirit bring to your remembrance that whisper which drives away despair, there is forgiveness, and enable you by that same grace to speak it to others in deed and in truth.
May the Lord keep you steadfast, tenderhearted and forgiving, to His praise.

Your desire to remain forgiving toward people no matter what is good and pleasing to God, and I thank Him for the work He has already begun in you.
Scripture calls us to be kind and tender hearted, forgiving each other even as God in Christ forgave us, and to be imitators of God as beloved children walking in love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. This is more than a duty to avoid punishment, it is a calling to share in something good, to reflect the Father who makes His sun rise on the evil and the good. When you forgive a fellow servant, you imitate the Lord who forgave you when you were His enemy, and you gain even in this life, for a forgiving heart is kept pure and finds favor and mercy with both God and people.
Perseverance is the way this forgiveness is kept alive. We are told to pray at all seasons in the Spirit, watching with all perseverance and supplication, and to pray without ceasing. Think of the widow who prevailed by her importunity, the friend who at midnight shamed his friend into yielding by his persistence, and the Canaanite woman who though first answered sharply still received what she asked because of her constancy. Like the man who waited thirty eight years by the pool, perseverance shows the sincerity of the heart, and God honors it. Forgiveness is not a single act but a continual choice to keep the tongue from bitterness and cursing, to let no polluted word proceed from the mouth that has been made clean, and to choose mercy again and again.
I pray for you now that God will strengthen you to persevere in this. May He give you grace to forgive as you have been forgiven, to forbear when you are wronged, and to keep your heart tender when it would grow hard. May He help you to pray with thanksgiving in every trial, to watch and continue steadfastly, and to remember how much you have been forgiven in Christ so that you may freely forgive others. May the Lord guard your mouth, keep your heart in His peace, and make you an imitator of His mercy day by day.
