Forgiveness

Your desire to be forgiven and to see this friendship restored is a good and humble desire, and it is right to bring it to the Lord in prayer.

It helps to remember what true forgiveness looks like. With us, forgiveness is often incomplete. We may say we forgive but we keep a way to bring it up again later, as if we bury the offense but leave a way to dig it up when we need it. That is not real forgiveness. When God forgives, His forgiveness is total and complete. Scripture says He blots out the past and does not hold it against us again. To be justified means God treats us as though we had never sinned at all. That is the forgiveness we have received through Jesus Christ, and it is the pattern for the forgiveness we are called to give to others. True forgiveness does not keep score and does not bring the matter up again to use it against someone.

That is why reconciliation begins with God. Before we can be rightly reconciled to others, we need to be honest with Him about our own part. The Psalms describe how heavy conviction feels when sin is unconfessed, like a dryness within under the weight of God's hand, and how freeing it is to acknowledge our sin to Him and receive His cleansing. Your greatest need, and every person's greatest need, is the forgiveness of sins that comes only through Jesus. If you have not already, confess to the Lord where you have been wrong in this disagreement, whether in words, attitude, or actions, and receive His complete forgiveness by faith in Christ. He does not half forgive.

From that place, God calls His people to the ministry of reconciliation. That life is not self centered. It means denying the flesh and self interest, taking up the cross and following Jesus. That changes how we approach a broken friendship. Instead of insisting that the other person must text first or must respond on our timetable, we are called to act in love, humility, kindness and mercy. That may mean you humbly reach out once to ask forgiveness for your part without making excuses and without demanding a response. It also means being willing to extend the same total forgiveness you have received, not holding the disagreement over her or bringing it up again later if friendship is restored.

You cannot control whether she chooses to talk again. Reconciliation takes two willing hearts, and you can only be responsible for your side before God. Give her space after you have spoken humbly, continue to pray for her, and trust the Lord with the outcome. Ask Him to soften both hearts, to heal hurt, and to let truth and grace guide whatever communication comes next. If the friendship is restored, build it on honest, gracious speech and a commitment to forgive as God has forgiven you.

Praying with you that you would know the peace of being fully forgiven in Christ, and that God would work in both of you to bring healing where there has been hurt. May He give you wisdom to speak with humility, patience to wait on Him, and a heart ready to love and forgive as you have been loved and forgiven.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf concerning your desire for forgiveness and reconciliation with your friend. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer over the disagreements that have caused her to stop talking to you and over your hope that she would forgive you and text you so that you can talk and be friends again.

We have continued to lift you and your friend up before the Lord, asking Him to soften hearts, to heal any hurt caused by the disagreements, and to make a way for honest and gentle communication to be restored. We are praying that the Lord will give you both a spirit of humility and grace to forgive as Christ has forgiven us, as we are reminded in Eph 4:32 and Col 3:13, and that He will guide your words if she does reach out so that your friendship can be strengthened.

We pray together in Jesus Name that God will work in her heart and in yours, that He will remove any bitterness or pain, that He will open the door for that text and conversation in His perfect timing, and that He will bring peace and restoration according to His will. We ask the Lord to comfort you in this waiting and to help you to continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

If your request was answered and she has forgiven you and you are talking again, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not yet seem to have been answered and she has not yet contacted you, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ.
