Forgiveness

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have been posting about experiencing constant spiritual warfare for years and I believe the reason I am experiencing it is due to the fact that I am living in sin by walking in unforgiveness. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.

We hear your cry for help and recognize the weight of conviction upon your heart. Unforgiveness is a heavy burden, one that the enemy uses to keep believers bound in chains of bitterness, resentment, and spiritual oppression. Scripture is clear: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:14-15). The spiritual warfare you are experiencing may indeed be tied to this unresolved sin, for unforgiveness gives the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27) and hinders your fellowship with God.

We must also remind you that forgiveness is not a feeling, it is a choice, an act of obedience to God. You may not feel like forgiving, but in Christ, you have the power to release those who have wronged you into His hands. Holding onto unforgiveness only poisons your own soul and gives the enemy permission to torment you (Matthew 18:34-35). The Lord calls you to "be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32). This is not optional for a child of God, it is a command.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, interceding for our brother/sister who is struggling under the weight of unforgiveness. Lord, You know the pain that has been carried, the wounds that have festered, and the lies of the enemy that have taken root. We ask that You would break the chains of bitterness and resentment by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Give them the strength to release every offense into Your hands, just as You have released theirs through the blood of Jesus. Father, we declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we rebuke every spirit of torment and oppression that has gained access through this sin. Restore their peace, Lord, and let Your healing flow over their heart. May they walk in the freedom that comes from obedience, knowing that vengeance belongs to You alone (Romans 12:19). We pray for a supernatural work of grace to soften their heart, that they may forgive as You have forgiven them. In Jesus’ name, we bind the enemy’s influence and loose the peace of God to guard their heart and mind (Philippians 4:7). Amen.

We encourage you to take this step of obedience today. Write down the names of those you need to forgive, and one by one, release them to God. You may need to pray this daily until the bitterness is gone, do not grow weary. The Lord is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). If the offense was severe, consider seeking godly counsel from a pastor or mature believer to walk you through the process of healing. But do not delay, unforgiveness is a prison, and Christ came to set you free (John 8:36).

Remember, your freedom is not found in your own strength but in the finished work of Jesus. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so now. There is no forgiveness of sins apart from His sacrifice, and no victory over spiritual warfare outside of His name. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Turn to Him fully, and let His grace empower you to walk in forgiveness and freedom.

Thank you for sharing this so openly. Carrying a sense of spiritual heaviness for years while wondering if unforgiveness is at the root is a heavy burden, and we hear how much you want to be right before God.

One thing that has helped others we walk with is understanding that forgiveness often happens in two layers. There is a decision, a quiet choice to release the debt and not pursue getting even or shutting the person out, and then there is the slower emotional side, where resentment and hurt still surface. The decision can be made even while the feelings are still catching up, and those feelings often fade only gradually as we stop rehearsing the hurt over and over. Forgiveness also does not automatically mean rebuilding the relationship.

If it would help, you might set aside unhurried time this week to honestly name before the Lord who and what still hurts, and put into your own words a simple decision to release that person from your judgment and entrust justice to Him. You do not have to force warm feelings in that moment. If you can, share that decision with a trusted pastor or counselor who can walk with you as the emotions slowly change.

We are praying for you.

Father, we lift our friend to You, grateful for a heart that wants to walk cleanly with You. Give clarity, peace and strength to keep choosing forgiveness, and heal the places that still ache. Lead step by step and draw close in this battle. In Jesus name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is forgiveness with God, and that truth is meant to drive away despair and bring the soul out of bondage. Your honest confession that you have been walking in unforgiveness is itself a mercy, for many remain hardened and do not see the sin that entangles them. You have seen it, and you have rightly judged that to harbor unforgiveness is to live in sin against the Lord who has forgiven so much.

Hear the whisper that has comforted so many trembling hearts, there is forgiveness. It is a divine forgiveness, for the Lord Himself says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. Were all men to withhold their pardon it would not shut you out of heaven, but without His pardon none can enter. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that it is spoken of with wonder, and a complete forgiveness, so that when a man trusts in Christ his sin is gone as though it had never been. It is not a forgiveness up to a certain point or up to a certain date, but a full and eternal forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. At this very moment there is forgiveness for you, whatever your years or your history, if with a penitent heart you desire it and put your trust in Christ alone. The tally is destroyed, the record of debt is nailed to the Cross, and He not only forgave at the first but continues daily to forgive.

And because we have so received, we are called to copy the pattern set before us. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. This forgiveness of those who trespass against us is not paltry or degrading, it is great minded and ennobling. It is a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness in which every Christian should take large shares, forgiving one another freely as we have been freely forgiven. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands. Wherever true pardon comes, there comes with it a turning from sin, a fresh view of it, and a heart that now seeks Gods pleasure instead of its own. If you have been long in bondage, the Lord may have brought down your heart with labor that you might feel your need, but He waits to be gracious now.

I will pray for you, and I entreat you to pray with me.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness that Thou mayest be feared, look upon this soul who confesses sin and longs for freedom. Grant repentance and faith in Jesus Christ Thy Son, through whom alone forgiveness is to be obtained. Blot out transgression for Thine own sake and remember sin no more. By Thy Spirit soften the hardness of heart, and give grace to forgive even as Christ has forgiven, fully and from the heart. Deliver from the bondage of spiritual warfare and from the snare of an unforgiving spirit, and let the certainty of pardon bring healing and holiness. Keep this one from turning back to that which offended Thee, and cause the life to show forth the praise of Thy great forgiveness. In the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly and for asking for prayer. It is a good and needful thing that you have recognized this struggle and brought it into the light, for the first step toward healing is to feel that we sin and to name it plainly before God.

You speak of constant spiritual warfare, and Scripture shows us that the Christian life truly is a warfare. There is a good warfare which we are called to fight under Christ our King, and this requires strong arms and continual vigilance. The enemy does not attack only from without, but he seeks a foothold within, and unforgiveness is one of the places where he finds it.

You have discerned rightly that walking in unforgiveness keeps the soul in sin. When bitterness and wrath and malice are allowed to remain, they become a root of bitterness within the heart. A bitter root cannot bear sweet fruit, for all that grows from it is unpleasant and full of hatred. To simply try to stop being bitter is not enough. The field of the heart must not be left empty after the thorns are pulled, but must be planted anew with kindness and tenderheartedness and a readiness to forgive one another. Forgiveness is not only the absence of anger, but the active putting on of mercy.

Consider how great a debt we ourselves have been forgiven. We came to God asking only for more time, and He in His compassion forgave the entire debt, not because we had earned it but by grace. Having received such forgiveness for much greater trespasses, how can we withhold forgiveness from our neighbor for lesser ones. Our Lord teaches us to pray for forgiveness even as we forgive, and He trains us to have a human soul, gentle and merciful, so that we may be called to account for none of our offenses.

Therefore I urge you, tell your offenses in particular before God, that you may know the greatness of His gift toward you and become truly grateful to your Benefactor. Confess the specific ways unforgiveness has taken root, repent of it, and ask for grace to release those who have wronged you, as Christ has released you.

I pray for you now, that God who alone saves through Jesus Christ would grant you repentance that leads to life, would wash away your sins and cover them by His grace, would soften your heart and teach you gentleness, would help you to put away all bitterness and clamor and malice and to put on kindness and tenderheartedness, forgiving as you have been forgiven. May He strengthen you to war the good warfare with sobriety and watchfulness, and may He give you the blessedness of one whose iniquities are forgiven and whose heart is at peace with Him.

Your request shows real honesty and discernment, and I thank you for sharing it. To recognize that an unforgiving heart can keep you in a place of sin and open the door to spiritual struggle is an important step toward freedom.

The Scripture presents God's forgiveness as the pattern we are to follow. That pattern is not only spiritual, it is also deeply practical for our inner health. When bitterness or animosity is held in the heart, it does far more harm to the one holding it than to the one it is held against. It eats away inside, troubles the mind, and can defile many around us. Like a root that spreads underground, bitterness springs up and brings trouble with it. That is why the Bible returns again and again to the call to have a forgiving spirit.

It helps to understand what true forgiveness is. Often we say we forgive but we keep a way to bring the matter up again, as if we bury the hatchet but leave the handle showing so we can pull it up when we need it. That is not real forgiveness. God's forgiveness is different and complete. When He forgives through Jesus Christ, He blots out the record, He remembers it no more, and He justifies us, which means He treats us as though we had never sinned at all. It is total and finished, not partial or conditional. We are not to measure God's forgiveness by our own imperfect way of forgiving.

Jesus taught that forgiveness is not a matter of mathematics or counting how many times we have forgiven. He spoke of forgiving seventy times seven to show that it must become a matter of the heart and of the spirit. He illustrated this with the king who forgave his servant an enormous debt. Having been forgiven so much, that servant was then expected to forgive others from the heart. In the same way, when we pray forgive us as we forgive others, we are not earning forgiveness by our works, but we are showing that we have truly received God's mercy and are willing to extend it. If we are willing, God will give us the capacity to do what He has commanded. It is right to pray plainly, Lord, take away this bitterness and give me a spirit of forgiveness, and to mean it with a willing heart.

You also mentioned constant spiritual warfare, and Scripture is clear that this warfare is real. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers, principalities and forces of darkness. Much of that battle goes on unseen around us, and we often feel the effects of it without understanding the source. The battle is especially for the mind. For that kind of warfare, natural weapons are not enough. God has provided spiritual weapons, especially His Word, faith, and prayer. By these we stand against the enemy's attacks.

There is cleansing and pardon when we come honestly to the Lord, confess our sin, and ask for His forgiveness. Nothing keeps us from that forgiveness except our unwillingness to come and receive it. If unforgiveness has become a pattern of sin for you, bring it specifically to Him now. Receive again His complete forgiveness that is already offered through the cross, where Jesus made a righteous basis for our sins to be forgiven. Then, in response to having been forgiven so much, ask Him to make you willing and able to forgive others fully, not bringing the offense up again.

I am praying for you, that God will lift the weight you have carried, wash your conscience, and heal the harm that bitterness has done in your heart and mind. I pray He will fill you with His Spirit of forgiveness, teach you to walk in His example, and strengthen you with His Word, faith, and prayer to stand firm in the spiritual battle. May you know the joy of a clean heart before Him and the freedom of releasing others into His hands.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer concerning the constant spiritual warfare you have experienced for years and your desire to be free from walking in unforgiveness.

We have continued to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to search your heart and to grant you the grace and strength to forgive as Christ has forgiven us. We pray that He will help you to release the burden of unforgiveness and to walk in the freedom of His forgiveness, remembering the truth of Eph 4:32 and Col 3:13, and the promise of Matt 6:14 and 1 John 1:9. We pray that as you choose forgiveness in obedience to Him, He will break the hold of sin in your life and deliver you from the warfare that has weighed on you for so long, and that He will clothe you in His armor and give you victory, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power as we are taught in 2 Cor 10:4. We ask the Lord to fill you with His peace, to heal the wounds that have made forgiveness difficult, and to draw you closer to Him.

We pray this in Jesus Name. If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Earlier this year, God started really leading me down a path of healing from unforgiveness but I think I faltered on it due to Satan attacking me hard in return. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.
