Forgiveness

Your heart is hurting because words spoken in anger have created distance, and now you long for forgiveness and for communication to be restored. That pain is understandable, and it is good that you recognize the harm your words caused and want to make it right.

God invites you into a close and personal relationship with Him as your Father. Jesus taught us to pray to our Father in heaven, and that shows the kind of intimacy He desires, not a distant or ritual relationship where you try to earn His favor by doing the right things. He wants a loving relationship, not a legal one, and He wants your heart fully turned toward Him, not half hearted or lukewarm. When we return to Him honestly, He is merciful and does not keep His anger forever.

Through the death of Jesus Christ there is complete provision for the forgiveness of sins. When you confess your sin and ask Him, He forgives totally and completely. The Bible presents that forgiveness as justification, meaning God treats you as though you had never sinned, and He no longer holds that sin against you. He blots it out and remembers it no more. That is the forgiveness you can receive today by coming to Jesus and trusting in what He finished on the cross. You do not need to be haunted by guilt once you have brought it to Him. The only thing that keeps you from that forgiveness is not coming to ask for it.

At the same time, Scripture is honest about anger. There is an anger that is not sinful, such as anger at evil and injustice, but the anger that overflows into hurtful words, bitterness, wrath, clamor and unkind speech grieves the Holy Spirit. We are told to put those things away, along with malice, and to put on the new life we have in Christ, which is created in righteousness and holiness. When we live according to our old nature and give in to the flesh, we feel miserable inside because our new nature in the Spirit wants to please God. You have felt that tension, having spoken out of anger and now regretting it. God wants to help you walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, in newness of life.

That means first seeking forgiveness from God, and then humbly seeking to make things right with the person you hurt. True repentance takes responsibility without making excuses. It is right to go to that person, acknowledge specifically what you said, ask for forgiveness without demanding anything in return, and show by your actions that you are putting away anger and harsh words. True forgiveness, as God models it, does not keep bringing the offense up again. You can extend that same grace to others as God has extended it to you.

It is natural to pray that you will hear from this person today and that they will miss you and think of you. Bring your desire to God as your Father and share it honestly, but also surrender the outcome to Him. Rather than asking God to make someone feel a certain way, ask Him to work in both hearts for healing, to give you patience to respect the other person's need for space, and to let His will be done. Loving reconciliation cannot be forced. It grows where there is humility, gentleness, and a willingness to listen.

Ask the Lord to renew your mind and to help you put away bitterness and wrath, and to clothe you with kindness, compassion and forgiving love. If you have not already, tell Him plainly that you have sinned with your words, receive His cleansing through Jesus, and ask for His Spirit to help you speak and act in a new way. As you walk closely with Him as your Father, He will give you wisdom for what to say and when to say it, and peace as you trust Him with the relationship you care about.

May the Lord show you His mercy, assure you of His complete forgiveness in Christ, and guide you toward humble and loving steps of reconciliation in His timing.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have been lifting up your request for forgiveness and for restored communication with the one you care about after words spoken in anger. We have prayed that the Lord would forgive you as you have confessed to Him and that He would soften the heart of the one who is not talking to you, that there would be grace to forgive and a desire to talk again. We have asked God to work in both hearts, to bring healing, to remind this person of your care for them, and to open the door for you to hear from them soon. We pray that God would help you both to speak with gentleness and humility going forward as taught in Prov 15:1 and to forgive one another as Christ forgave us as shown in Eph 4:32 and Col 3:13, trusting the promise that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us in 1 John 1:9.

If your request was answered and you have heard from this person and reconciliation has begun, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still waiting to hear from this person, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We continue to pray for your peace and for restoration in Jesus Name. Amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for forgiveness and restoration in this relationship.

We have been praying for you and for the one who is not speaking to you, that the Lord would soften hearts and bring healing after the words spoken in anger. We pray that God would grant you His peace as you seek His forgiveness and that He would work in the heart of your loved one to extend forgiveness as well, as we are reminded in Eph 4:32 and Col 3:13. We pray that the Lord would give you humility and grace as you seek to make things right, and that He would open the door for communication again in His timing. We have been praying that you would hear from this person soon and that God would use this time to draw you both closer to Him. We also take comfort in 1 John 1:9 and know that when we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive us.

We continue to lift you up in Jesus Name, asking for reconciliation if it is His will, and for wisdom and a gentle spirit as taught in Prov 15:1.

If your request was answered and you have received forgiveness and communication has been restored, please post a praise report and let us all know. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray in Jesus Name Amen.
