Forgiveness

Disciple of Prayer
I’ve made a mistake that I deeply have a lot of self hatred for and I just feel horrible all around by it. I’m alone and I’m deep in my head about it and I just wish I could take it all back. For everyone that comes through here, I pray that for one your prayers are answered and I pray that you at the very least have a small tidbit of thought for me.

We hear the weight of your sorrow and the depth of your regret, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your burden to the Lord. The pain of past mistakes can feel overwhelming, especially when we are alone with our thoughts, but we want you to know that there is hope and healing in Christ. The enemy would love for you to remain trapped in self-hatred and despair, but God’s Word declares that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). His mercy is greater than our failures, and His love is stronger than our shame.

First, we must address the reality that forgiveness—both from God and for ourselves—begins with repentance. True repentance is not just feeling sorry for what we’ve done but turning away from it and toward God. The Bible tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Have you brought this mistake before the Lord in honest confession? Have you asked Him to cleanse your heart and renew your mind? If not, we encourage you to do so now. God is not distant or indifferent to your pain—He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).

We also want to gently rebuke the spirit of self-hatred that has taken root in your heart. The Bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that our worth is not defined by our mistakes but by the price Christ paid for us on the cross. When we cling to self-hatred, we are essentially saying that Christ’s sacrifice was not enough—that His blood was not sufficient to cover this sin. But that is a lie from the enemy. The truth is that God’s grace is greater than all our sin (Romans 5:20), and He delights in showing mercy to those who turn to Him.

We must also address the isolation you’re feeling. The enemy thrives in secrecy and shame, but God calls us into community. James 5:16 tells us, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed." Is there a trusted believer—a pastor, a mentor, or a friend—in your life with whom you can share this burden? You do not have to carry this alone. God designed us to walk in fellowship with one another, and there is healing in vulnerability and accountability.

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is carrying the heavy weight of regret and self-hatred. Lord, we thank You that Your mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23) and that You are faithful to forgive when we confess our sins. We ask that You would break the chains of shame and condemnation in their life. Wash them clean by the blood of Jesus, and fill them with the assurance of Your love and forgiveness.

Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell them they are unworthy or beyond Your grace. Remind them that they are Your beloved child, created for a purpose, and that You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5). Give them the courage to reject self-hatred and to embrace the truth of Your Word. Surround them with godly community—people who will speak life into them, pray for them, and walk with them in this season.

Lord, we also ask that You would heal the loneliness they are feeling. Let them know that You are with them always (Matthew 28:20) and that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). Help them to see that their identity is found in Christ, not in their past mistakes. Restore their joy, renew their hope, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Finally, Father, we ask that You would redeem this situation. Use this pain for Your glory and for their growth. Teach them to walk in humility, to rely on Your strength, and to extend the same grace to others that You have so freely given to them. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our shame and carried our sorrows. Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on these truths today: God’s love for you is not based on your performance but on His character. His forgiveness is complete, and His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). You are not defined by your past, but by the One who holds your future. Take one step today toward healing—whether that’s writing down your feelings in a journal, reaching out to someone you trust, or simply sitting in God’s presence and listening for His voice. He is faithful, and He will meet you where you are.

We're here with you, friend. We understand the heavy weight of regret and the loneliness that can come with it. It's like carrying a backpack full of stones, isn't it? Each one representing a mistake, a failure, a moment of self-hatred. It's exhausting, and it's hard to see the light sometimes.

But you know what? God sees you. He sees the real you, not the mistakes you've made. He sees the heart that's hurting and the soul that's crying out. And He's not waiting to condemn you. He's waiting to embrace you, to heal you, to make you whole again.

We want to remind you of something Jesus said. He said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). He's not saying, "Come to me when you've fixed yourself." He's saying, "Come as you are." He wants to take that backpack from you, stone by stone, and replace it with His love and His peace.

So, let's pray together. Heavenly Father, we come to You right now, just as we are. We lay down our burdens at the foot of the cross. We ask for Your forgiveness, for Your healing, for Your love to fill us up and overflow. Help us to let go of the past and embrace the future You have for us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

And remember, you're not alone. We're here with you, every step of the way. You don't have to carry this alone. Let's walk together, one step at a time, towards healing and hope.

Lord, God my father in Heaven. I've been depressed these past few weeks. I resented masturbation, lust, pornography, and smoking as a form of comfort. I know it won't help me with my depression, as my depression stems from not reading your word and ignoring your ways, as well as being a lukewarm...
