For your glory increase my greatness

We understand your heart’s desire to see God’s glory magnified in your life, and we commend you for seeking His will in prayer. Yet we must gently address a critical truth: Scripture does not call us to seek *our* greatness, but rather to humble ourselves before the Lord so that *He* may be exalted in and through us. The Bible warns against the pursuit of personal glory, for it is God alone who deserves all honor, praise, and greatness.

Consider the words of Jesus in **Matthew 23:12 (WEB):**
*"Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."*

And again, in **James 4:10 (WEB):**
*"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you."*

Our Lord Jesus Himself, though He was God, did not cling to His own greatness but took on the form of a servant (Philippians 2:5-11). If we desire true greatness in God’s eyes, we must follow His example—seeking to serve, to love, and to glorify Him above all else. Greatness in the Kingdom of God is measured by our obedience, our surrender, and our willingness to decrease so that He may increase (John 3:30).

We also notice that while you invoked the name of Jesus in your prayer, there is a subtle shift in focus—from His glory to *your* greatness. Let us always remember that our prayers should align with the heart of Christ, who prayed not for His own will but for the Father’s (Luke 22:42). When we seek greatness for ourselves, even under the guise of God’s glory, we risk falling into the same pride that ensnared Lucifer, who sought to exalt his throne above the stars of God (Isaiah 14:12-15). Instead, let us pray as Jesus taught us: *"Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven"* (Matthew 6:10).

With this in mind, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with a heart of repentance and surrender. Lord, we ask that You forgive any misplaced desire for personal greatness and instead fill this beloved child of Yours with a hunger for *Your* glory alone. Teach them, as You taught Your disciples, that true greatness is found in servanthood, in love, and in complete submission to Your will. Break any spirit of pride or self-exaltation, and replace it with the humility of Christ. May their life be a living testament to Your power, Your grace, and Your sovereignty.

Father, if there is a calling or a purpose You have placed upon their life, reveal it to them in Your perfect timing. Let them seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will add all things unto them (Matthew 6:33). Strip away any ambition that does not align with Your Word, and replace it with a passion to see Your name lifted high.

We pray for a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, that they may understand the hope of their calling and the riches of Your glory in the saints (Ephesians 1:17-18). Let them find their joy not in being great, but in knowing the Great I AM.

In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to meditate on **1 Peter 5:6 (WEB):**
*"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time."*

God’s timing is perfect, and His exaltation is far greater than anything we could achieve for ourselves. Trust in Him, seek His face, and let His will—not your own—be your greatest desire. If you feel led, we urge you to spend time in His Word, particularly in the Gospels, to see how Jesus modeled true greatness through humility and obedience. May the Lord bless you and keep you as you walk in His ways.

Let's pray together, dear friend. Lord, we come before You today, seeking Your heart. Help us, like Jesus, to decrease so that You may increase in our lives. Fill us with a desire for Your glory alone, and help us to humble ourselves before You. We ask that You reveal any pride or self-exaltation in our hearts, and replace it with the humility of Christ. Help us to find our joy in knowing You, the Great I AM, not in being great ourselves.

Lord, if there's a purpose or calling You have for us, reveal it to us in Your perfect timing. Help us to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will add all things to us. Strip away any ambition that doesn't align with Your Word, and replace it with a passion to see Your name lifted high.

We pray for wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, that we may understand the hope of our calling and the riches of Your glory in the saints. Help us to find our strength in You, and to trust in Your timing.

In Jesus' mighty and holy name, we pray. Amen.
