We rejoice with you in sharing the good news of salvation and we agree with you that this is the most important message anyone can hear. We thank God for His mercy that He has made a way for us to be saved while we were still sinners.

We stand on the truth of Romans 10:9-10 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. We also hold fast to John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. And Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Jesus himself said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.

We affirm what you have shared that true saving faith includes repentance and turning from sin to follow and obey Jesus. The Scripture teaches in Acts 3:19 Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone, for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast as it says in Ephesians 2:8-9, and that genuine faith will produce a new life and a desire to obey Him, for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God in Romans 3:23 but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord in Romans 6:23.

Your encouragement to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, starting in the book of John, is excellent counsel. There we meet Jesus clearly as the Son of God and learn His teachings, His death and His resurrection.

Father, we lift up every heart that is seeking You. We ask that You draw them by Your Holy Spirit, open their eyes to their need for a Savior, and give them faith to believe in Your Son Jesus Christ. Help each one to confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and to believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead. Grant them repentance to turn from their sins and grace to follow and obey Jesus all the days of their life. Cleanse them from all unrighteousness and make them new creations in Christ. Lead them into Your Word, especially the Gospel of John, and guide them to a faithful church where they can grow in truth and fellowship. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus our Lord and only Savior, amen.

It is a precious truth you have set forth from Romans 10, that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. This is the plain gospel of salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus.

Salvation is of the Lord in every part. It was of the Lord in planning, for it is older than creation, and it was of the Lord in execution, for no one has helped to provide it, God has done it all Himself. And it is of the Lord in the application of it, for He must make the unwilling willing and bring the vile rebel to the feet of Jesus, or else salvation will never be accomplished. We believe everything which the Lord Jesus has taught, but we must go a step further and trust Him. It is not written, he that believes on Jesus nine parts out of ten and on himself for the other tenth, but whoever believes on Him, on Him alone, shall not be ashamed. Jesus will never be a part Savior.

And that faith is never alone, for faith and repentance are inseparable. Our Lord commenced His ministry with the two love notes of repentance and faith. Repentance is a blessed grace of God the Holy Spirit and is absolutely necessary unto salvation, yet it is not to be trusted in itself. The repentance which saves the soul is not a full and complete view of all the guilt of sin at the first, and there is not any eminent degree of it necessary to salvation. As the least faith saves, so the least repentance will save the soul if it is sincere. It is a godly sorrow which hates sin with a perfect hatred because evil is so hateful to the heart of Jesus, and mourns that we pierced the Lord. Such repentance is the gift of God, one of the free gifts of His grace, and when He gives it you may rest assured that the work of salvation has been already begun in your soul.

Do not trust for salvation to your repentance, or even to your faith, you might as well trust to your sins. Nothing is to be trusted to but the finished work of Jesus Christ upon Calvary's bloody tree. Upon His incarnation, life, death and resurrection our salvation hinges. By His rising from the dead evidence was given that He had fully endured the penalty which was due to human guilt, and whoever believes in Jesus Christ is as free from the guilt of sin as Christ is.

Therefore I pray for all who are now seeking salvation, that the Lord would grant you that repentance unto life which glorifies God, and that you would cry, Lord, I believe, help Thou mine unbelief, I would quit my sin, help me to quit it now for Jesus sake. May you confess Jesus as your Lord, for how sweetly does Jesus our Lord sound, and may you find that common joy in Him which becomes an evidence of grace. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.

Your counsel to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, beginning in the book of John, is wise. There you will see Jesus our Lord set forth as truly man of the seed of David and truly God, anointed to be the Savior of men. Continue in that Word, confess and turn from your sins, and follow and obey Jesus, looking to Him alone for justification and sanctification.

May the blessed Giver of all repentance unto salvation guard you from false repentance and give you that true repentance which exists unto life, and may the Lord who has provided everything in Father, Son and Spirit bring you into the full assurance of salvation in Christ. Amen.

What you have written from Romans 10 is the heart of the gospel and it is good that you have set it before others so plainly. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart we believe and are justified, and with the mouth we confess and are saved.

This promise stands because salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. He suffered and was made perfect as our Savior, and He has become the author of salvation to those who obey Him. That obedience is not separate from faith, but is the fruit of it. To believe truly is to turn from sin, to confess Him openly before others as He confessed the truth before Pilate, and to follow Him in a life of obedience. Faith justifies, and the same faith works itself out in a changed life that seeks to keep His commands.

Your counsel to turn from sin and to follow and obey Jesus is therefore right and necessary, and your encouragement to read the Gospels is wise. The Gospel of John is a good place to begin, for there you will see clearly who Jesus is, that He is the Son of God, and that eternal life is found in His name. From there Matthew, Mark and Luke will show you more of His teaching, His works and His call to discipleship.

I pray for everyone who is seeking salvation today, that God in His mercy would grant a true belief in the heart, a bold confession with the mouth, and a steadfast purpose to walk with Christ. May the Holy Spirit give you hunger for the Scriptures and grace to continue in faith, not to be shaken, and to know that your salvation is His glory and His joy.
