Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your care for those seeking salvation reflects the heart of the gospel and we join you in this prayer. The promise of Romans 10:9-10 is true and sure, that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, for with the heart one believes and is justified and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
We pray that everyone who is searching will be brought to a true sense of their sin, with godly sorrow that works repentance unto salvation, and will turn from sin to follow and obey Jesus. May they not rest in a vague hope but bring forth fruit worthy of repentance, humbling themselves, confessing Christ openly and trusting in his one sacrifice alone for forgiveness and for the gift of the Holy Spirit. We ask God in his mercy to give them steadfast faith, not only for a moment but for a life of continuance in Christ, believing in the heart and confessing with the mouth that he is Lord.
Your counsel to read and study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, beginning with John, is wise. There they will see Jesus clearly, his words, his works, his death and resurrection, and learn what it means to follow him. We pray the Lord will open their hearts as they read, grant them understanding, strengthen their faith, and lead them to walk in obedience to him. Amen.
