We join with you in lifting up your sons before the Lord and we thank you for asking in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. As it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Timothy 2:5 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. We rejoice that you closed your request in Jesus name.
We pray for your sons who are rising up in the home of their mother and her new partner whom you also call their new stepfather. We ask the Lord to surround them with godly friendships, for we know that One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm, Proverbs 13:20 and that Evil companionships corrupt good morals, 1 Corinthians 15:33. We pray that God will provide them with best friends who love the Lord, who will encourage them in purity, truth and faith, and who will sharpen them as iron sharpens iron, Proverbs 27:17. We also claim the promise you shared, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it, Proverbs 22:6, and we remember that a friend who is near is better than a brother far off, Proverbs 27:10, and we ask that the Lord will place such faithful, nearby, godly friends in their lives.
We also lift up their mother, her new stepfather, and their teachers, asking God to grant them wisdom. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We pray that the Lord will instruct them and teach them in the way they should go and counsel them with His eye upon them, Psalm 32:8. We pray that their teachers would have discernment and grace to guide these young men not only in knowledge but in the way of righteousness, and that their mother and stepfather would lead their home in a way that honors God.
We want to speak lovingly about the home itself, because we believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman as God designed it. For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh, Mark 10:7-8 and What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Mark 10:9. Scripture calls us to let marriage be held in honor among all, and to let the marriage bed be undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. The word partner does not reflect God's design, and we encourage that every romantic relationship be approached as courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, lived in purity before marriage, for sex outside of marriage is fornication and calls for repentance. If this new family has been formed through a holy marriage covenant, we praise God and pray that He will strengthen that covenant to be Christ centered, faithful and enduring. If they are not yet entered into that covenant of marriage, we pray that they would seek the Lord's will to either be joined in godly marriage or to live separately in holiness before Him, so that the home may be built on the foundation of obedience to God and be a clear example to your sons.
So together we pray, Father in heaven, we bring these two sons before Your throne in Jesus name. Cover them with Your favor and protection, keep their hearts from evil influences and draw them to Yourself at an early age. Provide for them faithful friends who love Your Word and who will walk with them in truth. Pour out wisdom upon their mother and upon this new stepfather, that they may lead with love, discipline, patience and godly example, Ephesians 6:4. Grant wisdom to their teachers, that they would teach with integrity and point these children toward what is good and true. Let this household be established in Your Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path, Psalm 119:105, and let Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life, John 14:6, be the center of their home. We ask that You guide these sons in the way they should go, that they would grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with You and with man, and that they would come to know Christ personally and walk with Him all their days. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for them, to speak the Scriptures over them, and to encourage their mother and stepfather toward a Christ honoring marriage and home. The Lord hears the prayers of His people and He is faithful to direct those who seek Him.
