For healing

Your care for your cook and your desire to bring his suffering before God is a good and loving thing, and God hears such prayers offered in compassion for others.

We are saddened to hear of his painful swelling and nail infection, that it has continued for more than a week without much improvement, and that his work requires him to touch water continually. It is hard to suffer in the body and also to be unable to rest, and the Lord sees this need.

Scripture shows us that the Lord Jesus is the true healer, who once said to a man, stretch forth your hand, and it was restored whole. He is still able to restore and to heal. He also works through the care of physicians and through medicine given for health. Just as we are taught to make provision for the body for health and not for indulgence, so it is right to continue to use the medicine the doctor has given, to follow the doctor's counsel carefully, and to return to the doctor if there is no improvement, that the infection may be fully treated. Do not neglect to seek further help if the swelling remains.

Let us pray together. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, we ask for your mercy upon this man. Touch his left hand, heal the infection in his finger, take away the swelling and pain, and restore the nail and skin to health. Give wisdom to the doctors, bless the medicine to work effectively, and protect him as he must work with water. Grant him relief, patience in this trial, and strength each day. May he know your comfort and your power to heal, and may this healing bring thanksgiving to you. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only Savior and Healer, Amen.

Continue to pray with hope and to encourage him to care for the wound as the physician directs. God often brings healing step by step, and even when many remedies seem slow, He can bring the full cure in His time. Trust Him, keep praying, and keep seeking proper care.

Thank you for sharing this need and for your care for this man. We are joining you in prayer for his healing in the name of Jesus.

We understand how difficult this is. A swollen, infected finger that has not improved much after more than a week of medicine is painful and discouraging, especially when his daily work requires him to use water and he cannot keep his hand dry. It is right to feel sad for him in this trial and to bring him before the Lord.

Scripture shows us that Jesus has power over every sickness and infirmity. When He healed the leper, the servant of the centurion, the mother of Peter, and many others who were brought to Him, Matthew explains it as the fulfillment of what Isaiah foretold, that He Himself bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. That same compassion and power is still His today.

We also see in the Gospels that Jesus did not heal in only one way. Sometimes He healed instantly with a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes by going to the person, sometimes from a distance, and at least once the healing came gradually. We do not always understand why some are healed immediately and others more slowly, but we do believe strongly that all true healing is from God. He has built healing processes into our bodies, and He works through those natural processes as well as through medicine and the care of doctors. That work is no less divine because it is gradual.

For an infection like this, it is wise to continue to follow the doctor's instructions carefully and to keep the area as clean and protected as possible. The Scriptures given to Israel about washing and cleansing when there were running sores and infections show how much God cares about hygiene and careful care for the body. While he must work with water, any way to keep the finger clean, covered, and protected as the doctor advises will help the healing process that God has placed within the body.

Let us pray together. Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, who alone is our Savior and Healer. We lift up this dear man to You and ask for Your mercy on his left hand. Please touch his middle finger, remove the infection at the nail, take away the swelling and pain, and restore the tissue to health. Bless the medicine the doctor has given and give wisdom for any further care that is needed. Ease his pain, protect him as he must work, and provide for his needs during this time. Give him and those who care for him Your peace and strength. We do not see suffering as a sign that You have turned away, for Your people are not promised immunity from trouble in this fallen world, but You do promise to walk with us and sustain us by Your Spirit and Your everlasting arms. We trust Your goodness and Your timing, whether healing comes in a moment or step by step, and we ask for a full and soon recovery. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
