Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing these burdens so honestly and for wanting to lift each of these people before the Lord. Hearing several needs at once can feel heavy, and it is right to bring them all to Him in prayer.
We are praying with you for each need you mentioned. For the child facing the spelling test, that God would grant clarity, focus and calm. For the one who is ill and dealing with side effects from medication while seeking medical help, that the Lord would bring healing, wisdom for those caring for her, and relief. For the two who had to travel abroad so suddenly without being able to explain, that God in His sovereignty would keep them safe, provide for what they need, and give you certainty and comfort even without full understanding. And for you, that you would know the Lord's deep peace and rest and sound sleep.
Scripture makes a distinction that helps here. Through the blood of Jesus we can have peace with God, being brought from darkness into His kingdom and forgiven. But it is also possible to belong to Him and still not be walking in the peace of God day by day. That peace comes when we rest our case fully in His hands and keep our minds stayed on Him because we trust Him. He has promised to keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world gives. It is a peace that passes understanding, and the world cannot explain it.
That kind of peace is not found in our own efforts, skills, or trying harder. Very small things can overwhelm us if we think we must handle them ourselves, yet nothing you are facing is too hard for the Lord to handle. The only place we truly rest is in faith, ceasing from our own works as God ceased from His, and resting in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. He is the sure foundation, the precious cornerstone. Philosophy, pleasure, prosperity and other things people run to cannot give real rest. Only He can.
God wants you to live in this rest. He has ordained peace for His people. There remains a rest for the people of God, and we are called to labor to enter into it by fully committing ourselves to Him and abandoning our cares into His care. When we look to Him instead of staring at the problems, when we say Lord, this is in Your hands, He keeps the heart and mind in quietness. In contrast, those who remain at war with God are described as like a troubled sea that cannot rest, casting up mire, with no peace. But when we turn to Christ and receive forgiveness and healing, the war is over and there is beautiful, settled peace.
So we pray that you would know that today. May the love of Jesus and the communion of the Holy Spirit rest upon you. May the Lord ordain peace for you and guard your heart and mind. As you keep your eyes on Him, may you find rest for your soul, and may He grant you sound, quiet sleep, holding you through the night.
We join you in entrusting each of these loved ones to the Lord, trusting that He is working even when we do not see all the reasons or outcomes. He is faithful to care for each one and to keep you as you trust in Him. In Jesus name, amen.
