For God to order my steps help me

Your prayer has been heard, and your broken heart is not hidden from the Lord. The pain of being lied to and cheated on by one who was close to you is a deep wound, and the added sting that he rationalizes what he has done and even laughed when confronted makes the sorrow and anger heavier. Scripture shows us this kind of betrayal is not new. One of the twelve betrayed the Lord Himself with a kiss, emboldened even by the Master's gentleness. When we see how that betrayal came from a heart given over to its own desires, we are warned and we are also comforted, for Christ knew what it was to be betrayed and yet He remained meek, not returning evil for evil.

God does not call what is sin something else. When there is fornication or unfaithfulness, Scripture names it plainly so that it may be healed. To rationalize sin as not sin keeps a person from the very forgiveness he needs. That is why your prayer for his salvation and for accountability is right and good. True love does not pretend sin is not sin. It prays for the person to come to see his need, to repent, and to receive forgiveness through Jesus Christ alone, for blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. That forgiveness only comes when sin is confessed, not excused. Accountability, whether through pastors, wise counsel, or the church family, is part of God's mercy to awaken the conscience and to protect others from further harm. We pray with you that God would bring that conviction and that he would no longer laugh at what should bring tears.

Your anger, sleeplessness, and anxiety are understandable, and the Lord invites you to bring them to Him. Anger itself was placed in us not to attack one another or to consume us with hatred, but to make us vehement against the devil and against sin itself. Turn that sharp edge first against your own need for healing, chastising not your worth but the temptation to let bitterness take root. You asked God to help you not hate, and that is the right prayer. The meekness of Christ at that last supper, reasoning gently even with the traitor, teaches us to put away the venom of wrath. This does not mean you pretend you are not hurt or that you trust instantly again. It means you release vengeance to God and ask Him to keep your heart clean while He is your defender.

You prayed, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me, and that is the prayer God delights to answer. The beauty He cultivates in you is not outward and fading, but inward and ever blooming, a heart washed and made whole by His grace. Forgiveness is part of that work. You are right to know you must forgive, and also right to ask for help to do it. Forgiveness does not mean calling the lie truth or saying the betrayal did not matter. It means, as God has forgiven you through the cross, you choose before Him to release this person from your own revenge and to desire his repentance rather than his ruin. That is a process, and God will walk with you step by step as you ask Him to order your steps.

So we pray with you now. Lord, order her steps and guard her mind and heart. Take away the anxiety that robs sleep and appetite, and give rest to one who is weary. Create in her a clean heart and renew a right spirit within her. Heal the broken heart and lead her in Your wisdom for what to do next, with counsel that honors Your design for marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and for all sexual purity belonging within that covenant. Bring this man to see his sin truly, to repent, and to receive salvation through Jesus Christ alone if he has not, and bring proper accountability around him so his hardness is not left unchecked. Keep her from hatred, teach her to hate the sin while loving Your justice and mercy, and let her know the blessedness of being forgiven and of forgiving through Your strength. Give her daily bread, nightly sleep, and the peace that guards the heart in Christ Jesus.
