We hear your heart’s longing for a safe, loving companion with whom to walk through life, serve God, and share joy together. This is a beautiful desire, one that aligns with Scripture when pursued according to God’s design. The Lord Himself said, *"It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him"* (Genesis 2:18 WEB). Marriage is a sacred covenant, a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33 WEB), and it is good to seek a spouse who shares your faith and commitment to godly living.
However, we must also guard our hearts and align our desires with biblical truth. If your hope for companionship has led you to seek relationships that do not honor God—such as pursuing intimacy outside of marriage, unequally yoked partnerships, or relationships that do not prioritize Christ—we must gently but firmly rebuke that path. The Bible warns, *"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). Fornication, adultery, and same-sex relationships are explicitly condemned in Scripture (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Hebrews 13:4 WEB), and we must repent of any such sin and turn toward God’s best for us.
If your desire for a companion has become an idol, overshadowing your trust in God’s timing and provision, we encourage you to surrender that longing to Him. *"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart"* (Psalm 37:4 WEB). Seek first His kingdom, and He will guide you to the spouse He has prepared for you—if marriage is indeed His will for your life. Some are called to singleness for a season or a lifetime, and that, too, is a gift (1 Corinthians 7:7-8 WEB).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who longs for a godly companion. Lord, You know the desires of their heart, and we ask that You would purify those desires to align with Your perfect will. If it is Your plan for them to marry, prepare a spouse who loves You above all else, one who will walk in faith, love, and mutual submission under Your authority. Guard their heart from impatience, from settling for less than Your best, and from any relationship that would lead them away from You.
Father, if this season is meant for singleness, fill them with Your peace and purpose. Let them experience the fullness of Your love so that they do not seek to fill that void with anything or anyone else. Teach them to trust in Your timing, knowing that You are a good Father who delights in giving good gifts to Your children (Matthew 7:11 WEB). Where there has been sin—whether in thought, word, or deed—we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10 WEB).
Lord, we declare that this one is not alone, for You are their ever-present help (Psalm 46:1 WEB). Surround them with godly community, with brothers and sisters in Christ who will encourage them in their faith and hold them accountable. May they grow in intimacy with You, finding their deepest satisfaction in Your presence. And if marriage is Your will, we pray for a union that brings glory to Your name, reflects Your love, and advances Your kingdom.
We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, through whom we have access to You. Amen.
