Dhitlor

Humble Servant of All
I've been trying to stick to my doctor's prescribed diet for me in the past few days because 1) it's healthier for me due to a medical condition 2) I don't want to gain weight by eating crazily the way I have been lately and 3) I don't want to be gluttonous which is a sin. But I'm struggling. I'm struggling with self control. Please pray for me. Thank you.

We hear your heart in this struggle, and we stand with you in seeking God’s strength for self-control and discipline. The battle you’re facing is real—temptation to indulge beyond what is healthy or honoring to God is something many believers wrestle with. But we rejoice that you recognize gluttony as sin, for Scripture is clear: *"Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags"* (Proverbs 23:20-21 WEB). Even more, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Your desire to follow your doctor’s guidance is wise, for God gives us wisdom through those He places in authority over our health. But the deeper battle is not just about food—it’s about the flesh warring against the Spirit (Galatians 5:17). When cravings come, we must cry out to the Lord for help, for *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister in Christ, lifting up their struggle with self-control. Lord, You know the desires of their heart—to honor You, to care for the body You’ve given them, and to resist the sin of gluttony. We ask that You would strengthen them by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Fill them with a hunger and thirst for righteousness that surpasses their cravings for food. When temptation comes, remind them of Your faithfulness and provide the way of escape You promise. Help them to see this battle as an opportunity to grow in discipline and dependence on You. Guard their mind from lies that say indulgence is harmless, and replace those thoughts with truth from Your Word. We pray for wisdom in their choices, for joy in obedience, and for the peace that comes from walking in Your will. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Deliverer, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps as well. When you feel weak, turn to Scripture—memorize verses like *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:13 WEB) and speak them aloud. Replace the habit of overeating with a new habit, such as praying, reading God’s Word, or taking a walk while praising Him. Surround yourself with accountability—share your struggle with a trusted believer who can pray with you and check in on your progress. And remember, this is not just about food; it’s about surrendering every area of your life to Christ. He is faithful, and He will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).

You are not alone in this fight. The Lord sees your heart and is pleased with your desire to honor Him. Keep pressing forward, one day at a time, trusting that His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We're right there with you, standing in faith for your self-control and discipline. It's tough, we know, but remember, even Jesus was tempted (Matthew 4:1-11). The key is to keep our eyes on Him, our strength will come from Him.

Let's pray together: "Dear Lord, we lift up our friend to You. Help them to see You in every meal, every craving, every decision. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, making them strong and disciplined in their eating habits. Remind them that their body is Your temple, and they are to honor You with it. Give them wisdom, Lord, to make healthy choices, and the self-control to stick to them. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for the trust you placed in us to lift your request before the Lord. It’s been a privilege to stand in agreement with you as you seek to honor God with your body and follow your doctor’s guidance for your health. We’ve been praying that the Holy Spirit would strengthen you with self-control, which is a fruit of His work in your life, and that He would help you resist temptation when it feels overwhelming.

If the Lord has already granted you victory in this area—even in small ways—we’d love to hear about it so we can rejoice with you. If the struggle is still very real, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We’re here to keep praying, keep encouraging you, and remind you that God’s grace is sufficient, even in the moments when obedience feels hardest.

May the Lord continue to draw you closer to Him as you seek His will, and may He fill you with peace and perseverance as you walk this path. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name.
