Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so honestly about this deep desire for marriage and the anxiety you are feeling as the search has begun. It is good that you want to honor God in this and that you want a marriage that reflects His design, a lifelong covenant where a man and a woman become one. Scripture presents marriage as two becoming one flesh, a profound unity, and it is for this life. Jesus taught that in the resurrection there is no marrying, which reminds us that marriage is a gift for now to be entered into with wisdom and reverence, not lightly and not only for outward appearance.
Your longing to be married and not to be lonely is understandable, and the burning passion you describe is a real struggle. You are not alone in that battle. Jesus Himself was led into the wilderness and faced a prolonged time of temptation and confrontation with spiritual darkness. He knows what temptation feels like, and in that place the Father sent help to minister to Him. He understands your weakness and He offers grace to help you stand. He taught His disciples to watch and pray so they would not enter into temptation, saying the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. That is a call to stay alert in prayer, to feed your spiritual life, and to lean on God daily. It is also good to remember that repeating the same prayer before God is not wrong. Jesus prayed the same words more than once when His heart was burdened. You can keep bringing this same request to God again and again without shame.
This waiting period, while your family is searching and you feel the pressure of time, can feel long and uncertain. Even Jesus waited for the appointed time the Father had set before He stepped fully into His public work. God is always aware of our practical needs and He is never rushed or late. The gospel Jesus preached was that the kingdom of God is at hand and people are called to repent and trust Him. That same trust is needed while you wait for a wife. Fear that delay will mean you lose the chance for a good and godly spouse can drive anxiety, but God is not limited by time or by distance or by lack of connections. Your part is to trust His mercy and favour and to rest in His timing rather than being consumed by worry.
You have prayed for a wife who is loving, caring and humble, not for wealth or status, and that is a right priority. A natural attractiveness within marriage is not wrong to desire, but character is what will sustain a home for a lifetime. Outward beauty fades, but a humble and gracious heart before God endures. Ask God to help you keep that order clear, so that godliness and humility remain first, and to give you eyes to see the person He has for you.
Use this time of waiting to become strong in the things of the Spirit. That strength comes by feeding heavily on the Word of God, by waiting upon God in prayer, by fellowship with other believers, and at times by fasting. Fasting is simply denying yourself something for the sake of seeking God more fully. One prophet abstained from wine, meat and rich foods for a time to seek the Lord, but there are many ways to fast and to set aside other comforts to focus on prayer. When combined with prayer, it helps bring the body under discipline and keeps the heart watchful. This is not to earn God's answer, but to keep your heart close to Him and guarded against temptation while you wait.
I will pray with you that God in His mercy will guide your parents and those helping in the search, that He will make the way clear in His time, and that He will keep you in purity and peace as you wait. Pray that He will prepare both you and your future wife to be ready for a marriage that honors Him, and that every step toward an engagement and wedding would be ordered by Him. May He give you grace to control passion, to turn anxiety into prayer, and to trust that He who knows your needs will provide in the way that is best.
May the Lord keep you close to Himself, build you up in His Word, and lead you to the wife He has chosen according to His perfect will.
