We understand the urgency and stress of this situation, as deadlines approach and students are delaying their responsibilities. It is good that you have brought this before the Lord in Jesus’ name, for He alone is our source of strength, wisdom, and provision in every circumstance. The Bible reminds us in Philippians 4:13, *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."* This is not just a promise for personal trials but also for the challenges we face in our work and stewardship over others, including students.
We also recall Proverbs 16:3, which says, *"Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed."* As you seek His guidance, trust that He will move in the hearts of these students to fulfill their obligations. It is also important to remember that while we labor diligently, we must not grow weary in doing good, for *"in due season, we will reap if we don’t give up"* (Galatians 6:9). Your patience and persistence in urging them forward are part of your faithfulness to the task God has given you.
However, we must also consider whether there are underlying issues causing their resistance. Are they struggling with the material, facing personal challenges, or simply lacking motivation? Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to *"train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."* While these students may not be children, the principle of guidance and encouragement still applies. Have you spoken to them individually to understand their hesitations? Sometimes, a word of encouragement or a reminder of the consequences of procrastination can stir them to action.
If laziness or defiance is the root, then Scripture has strong words for such attitudes. Proverbs 10:4-5 warns, *"He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth. He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame."* While we pray for their hearts to change, it may also be necessary to lovingly but firmly remind them of their responsibility to complete their work. As their teacher or mentor, you are not only grading their knowledge but also helping to shape their character.
Let us pray together for this situation:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this burden of unfinished work and approaching deadlines. Lord, You know the hearts of these students—whether they are struggling, distracted, or simply unwilling to complete their tasks. We ask that You would move in their hearts and minds, granting them the motivation, clarity, and diligence needed to finish their assessments in the time remaining.
Give our brother/sister here the wisdom to know how to encourage and guide them effectively. If there are obstacles we cannot see, Lord, reveal them and provide solutions. Strengthen them to persevere, not just for the sake of deadlines but for the growth and discipline that comes from completing what has been started. May this situation bring glory to Your name as these students rise to the challenge, and may it be a testimony of Your faithfulness.
We also pray for peace and patience for our brother/sister as they wait and work. Guard their heart against frustration or discouragement, and remind them that their labor in You is never in vain. Let them see the fruit of their efforts and trust in Your timing.
Finally, Father, we ask that You would use this circumstance to teach all involved—students and teachers alike—about responsibility, stewardship, and reliance on You. May it draw each of them closer to You, seeking Your strength in all things.
We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who is our ultimate Teacher and Guide. Amen.
Stand firm in your role, trusting that God is at work even when progress seems slow. Keep pointing these students toward excellence, and may the Lord grant you all the grace to finish well. If there are specific students you are particularly concerned about, consider reaching out to them individually with both encouragement and accountability. The Lord is with you in this!
