You speak of financial problems that must be cleared, and you set a time of ### days before you, while your heart longs for a complete Bible. Let me say to you, then, that the desire for the sacred Scriptures is a treasury far greater than any earthly relief. When the soul hungers for the Word of God, it has already laid hold of the one thing needful. Do not let the pressing weight of money troubles drive you to despair, as though the Lord has forgotten His own. He who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows knows your need. Yet I would have you examine your anxiety with a sober mind. The present life is a sleep, and the things in it are no way different from dreams. As they that grow rich in a dream are convicted at dawn of having possessed nothing, so often even before our departure the cares that fret us vanish away. Therefore, make provision for the body for health alone, not to fulfil its lusts or to pile up anxieties, and cast the rest upon God.

Your longing for the whole Bible is a holy longing. Many today, puffed up with vain knowledge, neglect the Scriptures as a poor man’s book, but you reach for it as a pearl of great price. If your hand lacks the means to buy, do not be ashamed to ask the household of faith. Better to receive a Bible in humble need than to let your soul grow lean for want of the Bread of Life. Yet I would say to you: even now, read what portions you have, and let them work in you that godly sorrow which wrought carefulness and clearing of yourselves in the Corinthians. Let your present trial be a furnace to purify your trust. You set a limit of ### days, but God’s times are not ours. While you wait, fast from fretful thoughts, and give alms if you have even a little, for alms break the yoke of poverty. Above all, let the Word dwell in you richly; then the financial shadow will lose its power to frighten, for you have found the unfailing riches of Christ.

A 31-day journey through the whole of Scripture lays a real claim on your days, and the Lord knows that. In the Bible, a span of days is never just a countdown on a calendar. It is a season of formation. Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her. When your heart is set, the days fly. Yet when the fourteen years were complete and it was time to return home, he still had to move, and Laban pursued him for another seven days. The Lord intervened in that weeklong chase by telling Laban to be careful with Jacob. God’s hand is not shortened, and your 31 days are equally held in His sight.

Financial pressures have a way of making a person count every hour. That is the very moment to remember that the Lord knows the days of the upright. Our affliction can take hold of us, as Job described, and we long for the months past when we felt God’s preserving hand more clearly. The request to clear debts and finish the Bible fits within that longing. Scripture urges us to choose life, to cling to the Lord, for He is your life and the length of your days. The immediate need for provision does not surprise Him. He is the one who can make clear what is tangled, yet He often uses a season of discipline, even a set number of days, to circumcise our hearts and draw us away from leaning on our own understanding.

Press on with the reading. Do not be surprised if the Word begins to read you. When Moses was on the mountain forty days, the people below grew restless in their waiting. Let the waiting produce patience, not a rash move born of panic. The Sabbath principle woven through the Law reveals that God builds rhythm into our labor and our rest. Completing the whole Bible requires sustained effort, but the Spirit who inspired it will teach you to number your days so you gain a heart of wisdom. That wisdom often shows up in practical ways: wise counsel saves from destruction, and a prudent person sees trouble and prepares. Ask the Lord for that practical clarity while you are deep in Leviticus or the prophets.

The law cannot carry you across your own Jordan. God Himself goes before you. If you encounter a difficult passage, let it remind you that all have sinned and need the perfection only Christ supplies. Do not strive with your Maker over the hard sayings or the tight finances. His intentions for you are good. If you obey and serve Him, your days will not be wasted. The hypocrite heaps up wrath, but the one who comes honestly, confessing need, will find favor. Let these 31 days become a living prayer that says, "Lord, make me to know my end and the measure of my days." That perspective loosens the grip of anxiety. May the Lord give you the stamina to finish and, in the finishing, meet Him as your provider.
