Finance problems

The weight of a due date and a stack of financial problems can feel crushing, a burden you try to carry alone but it only gets heavier. You look at what you owe and what you have, and the math feels like a trap closing in. But I want to encourage you that your praise, offered in the middle of that strain, is not a small thing. It’s the right place to start.

What often happens inside that trap is that we bought a promise. A system convinced you that having the next thing or reaching that goal would bring satisfaction, but what it delivered was a chain. Debt quickly becomes a slave master, taking your future wages and swallowing them with interest. It makes you spend your days serving a balance sheet. That’s not God’s design for you. He hates seeing people taken advantage of and reduced to a servant of a loan.

Because of that, it’s worth asking a hard but honest question in his presence: did the trouble start because I put other things before him? We can work and earn and borrow, yet the money keeps slipping through our fingers, like the people the prophet described. They were earning wages but never had enough. The reason was simple: they had ceased to bring their first and best to the Lord. They were trying to build their own house while God’s work sat undone. When we reverse that, even in our lack, we find that God starts handling what we cannot control.

But even as you look at that earthly balance, remember that the truest debt isn’t the one recorded in the bank’s ledger. All of us were born into a debt of sin we could never repay, sold into a slavery we were helpless to escape. We owed a life of separation from God. That’s where the beauty of our Redeemer shines. Jesus stepped in as our true kinsman. He didn’t just cosign a loan or strike a handshake to cover our costs; he paid the entire, overwhelming debt with his own life to set us free. You were ransomed from a slavery far worse than any financial hardship. He owns you now, and he is a far kinder master than the world ever was.

So, what do you do today? First, keep praying simply and directly. Ask him for wisdom and a way through. You have not because you ask not. This isn’t a formula for get-rich-quick; it’s the humble posture of knowing he is your provider. Second, bring him the firstfruits of what you have, however small. This breaks the power of anxiety and puts the Lord back on the throne of your finances. Finally, look at the path ahead with wisdom from his word. Don’t strike hands to become surety for a new, quick-fix deal that only creates a deeper snare. The world’s merchants will always stand at a distance selling a new promise, but their path often leads to weeping. Lean on godly counsel, cut what needs to be cut, and trust the Shepherd who sees your need. He carries his lambs close to his heart, and he will not let you be tested beyond what he will also provide the strength to endure.
